I have a big problem in my bank account and they have told me at my branch that I have to call Halifax head office in Birmingham. I've tried to find the addresss but I can't, the only thing they gave me was this number

0845 6000718

Its going to take some tim to sort out so I dont want to call that number plus this is not my fault it's thier mistake

I don't think Halifax head office is in Birmingham.

The bottom entry on http://www.halifax.co.uk/contactus/callus.shtml gives a geographical number for 'all product areas'

so a call to 0113 380 9574 (which is Leeds) has to be worth a try.

They do seem to have regional offices, so certain branches come under a particular regional head office, one of which is in Birmingham. They once told me the Leicester branches come under the "Newcastle" office (presumably -under-Lyme, but knowing illogical Halifax, it wouldn't surprise me if it's -upon-Tyne).

I can't find that particular 0845 number anywhere. There are lots of entries for Halifax on 192.com. They also own Birmingham Midshires, which has its office in Birmingham.

Thanx for looking I couldnt get it anywhere but I did phone the leeds one and they did do some things for me but have to wait till tomorrow to see whats happened. I got passed to Birmingham midshires god knows how many times Halifax are terrible when theres a problem

Does anyone know what has happened to the BM geographical numbers as none of them seem to work ? :(

I also tried today all geographical and freephone numbers listed in the database for savings but none work.

I'm wondering if they have combined them with HBOS numbers - will try and check tomorrow.

I have just tried this one 01422 380880 which puts you through to the switchboard and you just need to ask for BM savings.

This number is listed on the database, the other number doesn't work.

Have they moved location? With the number of numbers which either redirect or are unobtainable, maybe they have moved elsewhere or at least moved those customer service operations we had alternatives for.

01902 302800 is now unobtainable and was "Savings for British Gas" (0845 6098952)
01902 302801 /02 /09 /888 were for the mortgage contact centre but are now unobtainable
01902 302832 is now unobtainable and was listed as alternative for Savings & Investments
01902 302833 has redirection message for "Collection Team" on 0845 6032652

The number we had for switchboard, 01902 508000, has a recording (which is aimed at internal callers) saying that you have dialled 0 and that switchboard is on 7583 33333. Perhaps this number goes through to another switchboard elsewhere. We do have reception which is 01902 302001.

A number of 0845 and 0800 numbers now are either not recognised or have recordings giving new 0845 numbers.

According to the Wikipedia article, it became a division of Bank of Scotland Plc in 2007.

If they have moved, then the best alternative we have at the moment is Halifax's switchboard number, 01422 380880. At least they will put you through.

Many of the geog numbers in the database no longer work (I tried quite a few today).  One that does, however, is the HBOS switchboard 01422 380 880 and they will transfer to Birmingham Midshires.  You have to tell them though what dept. you want.

If one asks for Savings they sometimes transfer to a number where one has to punch in the account number to proceed.  This doesn't always work, therefore it is best to ask the switchboard to transfer to Savings where there is a menu of options to choose from.

Nice try, but for the time being still have to use: 0845...

Hi. A big THANK YOU to all who said Birmingham Midshires have blocked their geographical numbers, but to dial 141 first and the call would be accepted. It worked!!
I pay 5p/call, whatever the length of it and it would have cost 10p just to listen to all the recorded info. I hate being conned. Thanks again.

I have joined your post to the existing thread for this company. As you can see from previous postings, Birmingham Midshires regularly disable alternatives that are published here.

The only alternatives left are listed in the database and they are 01902 398411 and 029 2078 1145 which I believe are for international calls to BM. They have the same menu on which allows access to all (or most) types of enquiry. Savings & Investments is option 1.

Let us know how you get on. If it is a suitable alternative, I will add it to the database for others to use.  :)
