St Austell BDC (Jobcentre Plus) - please
Sep 1st, 2007 at 10:57am

While hunting for an alternative to the 0845 6088578 number given for St Austell BDC Jobcentre Plus, I came across this web site which while has produced some other useful numbers for me, I could not find one for the aforementioned number.

I tried hunting for St Austell BDC, Austell BDC, Jobcentre Breakwater, 0845 6088578, 08456088578, 0845 608 8579 and 08456 088579 using goggle but no luck. Also tried hunting through the DWP web site but could not find anything.

The Address is:

St Austell BDC
Jobcentre Plus
Breakwater Road
Plymouth
PL95 8BN

Many thanks for any replies,

G

That PL95 post code doesn't look right to me. Are you sure that is the one given? Multimap shows it to be about 10 miles out of Plymouth in the countryside near Tideford Cross, just of the A38 (see here). Huh

It must be a business post code. Breakwater Road is in PL9, but it's not PL9 8BN or even PL9 5BN. Businesses in Breakwater Road have post code PL9 7HJ.

PL95 8B~ seem to be all the JobCentre ones.
Sorry, and much of PL95 8A~ and PL95 8D~
So, yes, a bulk-mail handling code for all the "separate" Job Centres.

St Austell is in Cornwall and contact details of probably all Cornish Job Centres, including St Austell, are given here:

http://www.cornwall.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=3921

Plymouth is in Devon and here is a list of jobcentres in town:

http://www.jobcentrevacancies.co.uk/offices/44-plymouth.html

Excuse my ignorance but what is "BDC"?

Breakwater Rd    Pomphlett Plymouth   PL9 7**       (From Autoroute)

Or

BREAKWATER ROAD PLYMSTOCK PLYMOUTH DEVON PL9 7HJ   (from 192)
which has a code of 01752

Looked on map for both areas
Either could be correct. Pomphlett Rd runs  into Breakwater Rd

Thanks for the replies,

lompos:

Thanks for the links, although the Jobcentre Plus in St Austell is not St Austell BDC. From what I can gather, it is one of 2 central processing departments for Income Support, the other is based in Wales.

I do not not what "BDC" stands for, I believe it is used to distinguish between the processing department and the front end Jobcentre Plus.

The St Austell BDC as part of its remit, sends out the Giro cheques which are cashed at the Post Office.

a very nice man:

Thanks for your research. Again, All I have in terms of a contact is that I had previously posted.

BDC? Benefit Distribution Centre?
Which may explain the twenty-five BDC offices based in Breakwater Road. (PL95 8AA to PL95 8DD - not consecutive)

Going by a job advertisement, the St Austell Benefit Delivery Centre seems to be actually in St Austell: http://jobs.thisiscornwall.co.uk/cgi-bin/advsearch?search_emp_mkt_cd=SE

Benefit Delivery Officers
Location:St Austell, Pl25 4bx St Austell Benefit Delivery Centre Jobcentre Plus is an agency of DWP  To request an application pack please call 0845 8500456 quoting reference 7542956 and postcode PL25 4BX.

Searching for the PL25 4BX postcode yields the following address (albeit no phone number):

SOCIAL SECURITY
20 CARLYON HOUSE
CARLYON ROAD
ST AUSTELL
PL254BX

I think the Breakwater Rd, Plymouth, address on their letterhead started us on the wrong tack, it is probably just a bulk mail reception faciility.

The St Austell Jobcentre Plus is at 17 South St, PL25 5TY which is only 0.18 mile from the Carlyon Rd address. It is possible that they share the same switchboard. The number for the Jobcentre Plus is 01726 294 000. Try it  and let us know how you got on.

Everyone,

Many thanks for all your hard work.

I will try the main switchboard number tomorrow using 01726 294 000 and will ask for Mary Gunn directly.

I will let you know the results soon thereafter.

Kind regards,

G

Just tried the 01726 294 000 and asked for Mary Gunn, making no reference to BDC.

The woman who answered responed with:

Mary Gunn is at the BDC and this is the Jobcentre. You will have to ring 0845 6088578.

I asked to be transferred through, and she replied that this can not be done and that the only way is to ring the number 0845 6088578 which is at local rates.

So, no luck there.
