0300 2000 100 is a new telephone number to make it easier for people to report flooding incidents.

The official announcement of the new number has been brought forward in response to today's local weather forecast, warning of possible flooding.

This new service, called the Flooding Incident Line, will improve the way in which members of the public can report a serious flooding situation to a single point of contact.

Tom Kennedy, programme director for the new line, said: “This new single number, 0300 2000 100, is a positive step forward and will provide the public with one point of contact to report that their property is flooded or flooding.

“While this new number cannot undo the damage caused by flooding, it will make it simpler for people to report incidents. They will no longer have to decide whether to phone Rivers Agency, Roads Service or NI Water or wonder which telephone number to ring.

“All they will have to do now is to ring one number and the incident line operators will route the report to the right flooding response agency.

“The new telephone service will be available 24 hours a day all year round. In developing the line we have had good co-operation from the three agencies responsible for responding to floods.

“It is not an emergency call service and it will certainly not prevent flooding, but it will provide an easily remembered number for reporting flooding to the relevant government agencies.

“The new number is an important part of the Department Finance and Personnel’s commitment to improve citizens’ access to government services and information.”
