Co-operative Insurance (CIS Insurance)
Feb 11th, 2010 at 9:31pm

One of the numbers we have which is answered as "The Co-operative Financial Services", 0161 832 8686, is now no longer suitable for Co-operative Insurance (CIS) enquiries. There is a redirection message to 0845 746 4646 and it says that "all calls are charged at a local rate". Roll Eyes Roll Eyes  For all other types of enquiry, callers can hold to be put through to a switchboard operator.

For the record, I've removed the following entries:

Verified entries:

Co-op Insurance (CIS)             0845 746 4646       0161 832 8686             Car Insurance; also Home Insurance - 0161 9035838 Customer Relations - 0161 8378985
Co-op Insurance (CIS)             0845 999 8888       0161 832 8686             Customer services Also for 0845 7464646

Unverified entries:

Co-op Insurance (CIS)             0845 603 3298       0161 832 8686
Co-op Insurance (CIS)             0845 603 3312       0161 832 8686             Insurance services
Co-op Insurance (CIS)             0845 600 2918       0161 832 8686             Financial services switchboard - ask for Motor insurance
Co-op Insurance (CIS)             0845 600 2919       0161 832 8686
Co-op Insurance (CIS)             0845 606 6586       0161 832 8686             Ask for department you need
Co-operative Bank Credit Card             0845 355 0305       0161 832 8686

Principally, there are two IVRs (menus):

The main one is on 0845 746 4646 and gives options for different types of insurance and financial products:

1. Motor insurance
2. Home, caravan and travel insurance
3. Life, endowment and platinum bond
4. ISA, Unit trust, PEP, instant access savings
5. Pensions
6. Commercial combined

Alternatives: 0800 011 3430 or 0161 837 8001 /8002 /8004 /8007

The second menu is:

1. Motor quote
2. Home quote
3. Help with existing motor policy
4. Help with existing home policy
5. All other enquiries (goes through to menu above)

Numbers: 0800 115115, 0800 011 3320, 0161 837 8003 /8005 /8011

The 'old' claims number, 0115 907 5300, now has a recorded message redirecting to 0845 999 8888.

Hi there

Have only been given the 0845 7 46 46 46 number for this dept, can anybody help with a regular number please? The listed number for Co-op Customer Services (which I posted) will not allow transfer for car insurance purposes, grrr.

Cheers,
Tinks

Hi Tinkerbelle,

Have you entered " Co-operative Insurance " and you will find an entry for 0800 2943833, and it is run by
by BISL Ltd - cars.

Hope this is of some help.

Please can you provide the number you are referring to which you submitted so we know which one you are talking about.

See above, I covered this a year ago and found that alternatives to the 0845 746 4646 number are 0800 011 3430 and 0161 837 8001 /8002 /8004 /8007. I have just tried them all and they are answered with the same IVR (menu) as they were then (see my previous posting for the options given) and this is exactly the same as the IVR on the 0845.

So perhaps you could try one of these numbers and report back how you get on.

Evening gents

Thanks for the info, I can answer queries as follows:

Dave, the number I posted this week was for Co-operative Bank Customer Services on 01695 53760. This is only for banking purposes though. I have just tried 0161 832 8686 in an attempt to access the Co-op Car Insurance dept, however, message tells me that office is closed but I can call 0845 7 46 46 46 until 8pm. Presumably if I called back tomorrow I may convince them to put me through...

I have been unable to find this info previously, I realised I have been putting in Co-operative Bank Car Insurance, all a bit too literal, evidently!

Finally, I tried the 0800 number suggested by jamesbond, (thanks for that), I did just get through so it is the right number. Funny thing is they answer as Eco Insurance (that's what it sounds like anyway) then say they are part of Co-op and it is run by BISL - had huge row with BISL yesterday regarding renewal of Budget insurance, who are, you guessed it, part of BISL. So, if I want my Co-op policy, I may have to eat humble pie! These insurance tuck-ups are more complicated to keep track of than the banking 'buddies'...

Anyway, thanks guys, much appreciated. Tinks x

If you Google 'Eco Insurance' you will see the first listing has a co-op web address, so presumably they are one of the same

I presume that 0161 832 8686 is the main office switchboard and they are usually open during main office hours, e.g. Mon-Fri 9-5 or 830-530 etc.

As the 0161/0800 numbers I listed (posted above) answer in exactly the same way as the 0845 number, then I think it's fair to say that they are suitable alternatives.

I Buy Eco is BISL Insurance, but as far as I was aware Co-Op Ins is part of CIS Insurance, I am not sure who underwrites it.

Unless I am getting confused over your Eco Insurance.

However co-operativeinsurance.co.uk/servlet/Satellite/1201678905970,CFSweb/Page/Insuranc
e-Car this link shows Co-Op has it's own Eco Insurance service, via the same 08457 number.

Edited to include link.

A number of the 0161 numbers found previously for CIS are now defunct and have been removed from the database.

The number 0845 746 4646 which has options for different types of insurance has an alternative 0800 011 3430.

0161 837 8001, 8002 and 903 5801 all answer with a recording "Sorry, I didn't recognise your response..." The recording then says re-enter your selection or press 0 to repeat the options. The latter then plays a long message about disclosure, taxes and the like for quotations.

The same goes for 837 8003 and 8005 which for quotations.

Just an update from a Co-operative Insurance Worker.

During the later half of last year we had a major telephony overhaul which took away a lot of redundant numbers, and changed all the managers numbers. After checking today, 837 8001 is still working, for now.

However, we are making another change, which I am not in agreement with (but I am only a worker with no pull I'm afraid). Our 0845 numbers are in the process of changing to 0844 numbers, in what the management are calling an improvement in the fairness of call charges (it will charge the same daytime, evening & weekend). Both the new numbers and old numbers will work for approximately 6 months, but when they turn off the 0845 number, I expect all the 0161 alternatives will die with them and I'll be frantically dialling all the internal codes I can think of to get some new numbers for you all. I will do what I can, but be aware that non of the management in my area are aware of the alternative numbers, so the staff will have no idea. Please don't be offended if we say we don't know of any other number, we genuinely don't!

The good news is the switchboard hasn't changed, nor will it. Their willingness to transfer however really depends on who you get. I don't know anyone there so can't help further.

Also, whilst eco-insurance is underwritten by the Co-operative, and traded as the Co-operative, their customer service is run by BISL as previously mentioned, whilst the claims are with Co-operative Insurance Claims. There is also the direct policies (currently on 08457 464646) and a Young Driver policy, with the customer service aspect run by BDML. These are in different companies as they are better trained to deal with queries on the eco aspect, or the young driver smart box (BDML already offer a smart box policy so no new training needed for them).
