Tesco - Beverley & Hull
Feb 20th, 2012 at 9:05pm

Dave

I am able to confirm a geographic number for Tesco in Beverley, which is not yet in the database ....

MORTON LANE,
BEVERLEY,
EAST RIDING OF YORKSHIRE,
HU17 9DB.
Telephone: 0845 6779101

Geographic number used successfully earlier today is ... 01482 883344

Would you mind updating the list, please  Wink

Also, just out of interest, why are so many numbers struck-out?  I presume they no longer work  Roll Eyes

Edit:  Ooops  Embarrassed  It is actually in the Unverified list

It appears to ring directly with no IVR Menu

Is this correct Golf Paul?

Correct  Wink

After ringing for a while (perhaps a minute or so) it was answered directly by a HUMAN BEING  Smiley

How mad is that  Tongue

Very pleasant lady, who was able to sort out my enquiry  Cool

Anyway, I hate those menus with a vengeance.  The option I need is nearly always the last one, and I have to listen to all the unwanted dross until I hear the desired option  Angry Angry

I have a suspicion that incoming calls are picked up by Staff on the Customer Service desk just inside the entrance.  Perhaps they were busy when I called, hence the slight delay in answering.

I hope to visit the store tomorrow, so I will try to find out a bit more  Grin
BTW - I did precede the number with 141  Wink Smiley

Edit: Is Dave on half-term  Cool

I'm back, bright and early, well bright.

As I posted on the thread for Tesco in Colchester (the one that CJT-80 alluded to), I recently went through the entries for Tesco branches and struck out all those alternatives which are now not recognised and for which there was no known replacement.

What seems to be happening is that stores are being moved from BT numbers to C&W ones. Some have been found to have one of each (that go through to the IVR - and it follows that it is assumed two blocks for incoming numbers) running in parallel. Perhaps there is a phased approach of transition.

The number for Beverley, 01482 883344, is a widely publicised one, and, I assume, not one of a block. C&W has one 01482 prefix and it is 40 (with the subsequent digits being 0, 1, 6, 7, 8 and 9). 408600 is the IVR for Beverley and, based on other stores, 408607 will probably be for the customer service desk (I wonder if this is the same department as 883344).

Unfortunately quite a few of the IVRs haven't got their directions and address recorded, so the default message from the Scottish lady (referring the caller back to the Store Locator) is played. In order to work out which store it relates to, it is often necessary to note down things such as opening times and in-store facilities and see which 0845 number they tally with. It is best not to assume that the information on the store's page on the Store Locator is the same as that on the automated phone system, as it's not. Within some STD code areas, there is more than one Tesco that has the same opening hours, which is why comparing facilities can be necessary.

There are two more main Tesco stores within the area covered by the 01482 code and they are the Hull Superstore on Hall Road and Hull Extra in St Stephen's Centre.

The former's IVR is 408300 which I have now listed in the database. There were two unverified numbers for this branch which I have now removed and they are 802101 and also 475979 which had a note to say that a call was received from it. BT Phonebook also gives 803487 and 805562, as well as 803487 for the filling station.

I have not found the IVR number for St Stephen's. However, the number published for it on a number of sites, and listed unverified in our database, 303400 could be the KC number. The Centre's own website gives the contact number for Tesco Extra as 407407. Remember the customer service desks within stores usually end 07... Yet 407400 is unobtainable. I wonder if some branches' 00 numbers aren't configured to route to their IVRs and some are.  Undecided

OK, I have an update about the Beverley Tesco in particular, but this information may be relevant to the other Hull area stores.

I was correct in that incoming calls are answered by Staff on the Customer Service desk just inside the main entrance.  Apparently because they (and me  Wink) are on Kingston Communications network, they cannot have what I think she called the "FeatureNet" system in the Hull area stores.  I guess this is the IVR Menu system referred to earlier.

The delay in answering is because they are usually busy  Cheesy

I'm not sure how this relates to all the details posted above by Dave.  I haven't had chance to think about it or take it in  Shocked

See this Computer Weekly article from May 2008: Tesco’s IT strategy to support international expansion

Quote:
The network from Cable & Wireless will connect 1,800 Tesco sites and offer 40 times the existing bandwidth capacity in the UK. It will connect stores in more than 14 countries and 440,000 employees worldwide.

Initially, the network will allow stories in the UK to use applications such as voice over IP to save on call costs, and telepresence to reduce staff travel costs.

Tesco plans to roll out fixed-mobile technology on the network to let staff to use their existing mobile phone for all calls - operating as a fixed-line phone in the office, and roaming on to a mobile network when outside. The service is expected to save Tesco between £8m and £10m a year in business-to-business call costs over its current BT Featurenet service.

So the move by Tesco away from BT Featurenet to the current C&W network started in 2008. It is possible, with the greatest of respect to staff, that they may not have realised that the new service from C&W is not "Featurenet", which is in fact a service from BT.

The fact that branches are switching to C&W geographic numbers suggests that they are moving operators (or have done so). Similarly, I guess that in Hull and Beverley, KC numbers are to be replaced with C&W ones. What I've found rather confirms this.

Thus, I suggest that perhaps the customer service desk can be reached on the C&W number 408607, as well as the old KC number 883344. The IVR (which the 0845 number directs to) can be reached on 408600.
