Hello from a newbie.

Had a lot of problems with a website and had to contact 123-reg.co.uk for tech support. The website and answer phone states calls are charged at 10p per minute. I checked my online phone bill and found that I was being charged 23p per minute.

Surely this must be totally illegal and immoral. This is a big company (Pipex subsiduary) - any suggestions what to do next. As it happens I later got through via the suggested numbers on the site here - on 2 occasions I was held in a queue for 30 mins and 40 mins - a lot of dosh for listening to Mozart.

The maximum cost of a call to any 0871 number is 10p/minute from a BT landline.

Other line providers do not have to follow BT's charging structure but I'd have thought there'd be only about a 10% difference.

Who are you with?

Mobile providers are, of course, a law unto themselves.

Thanks for the info - I wasn't aware of that rule. I'm with Vonage (VOIP) - they have always been good so I am very surprised that it is they who are exploiting me (or tried to).

Looks like there are plenty of 0871xxx numbers in Vonage's charging chart at up to 14p per minute, but can't see any more expensive then that.

What a rip-off! >:(
