HM Customs and Revenue have an office in Southport - Hoghton Street and I have been unable to find their 01704 local number.  I wish to make an appointment to speak face to face with an income tax official as I am getting nowhere with postal and telephone (0845) communications.

I know this seems a bit of a daft question, but have you actually visited the office and tried to make an appointment? I have done this with my local tax office in the past.

When I type in Southport in the HM Customs and Revenue web site it shows this

Is this anywhere near? If it  is, dial 141 before dialling the number (obviously you will have to put a 0 infront of the 151) and make an appointment.

Best I can do I am afraid, others may be a bit more successful. By the way have you got the post code for the Southport office?

Yes thanks.  I used to be able to just walk in (they get my Code No. wrong every year), but they put a stop to it three or four years ago.  The system now is to call some number elsewhere (0845 of course) to get an appointment.
I'm not with BT as I have cable phone and broadband via Virgin Media, so will putting 141 first work for me?

Well,  I only suggested putting 141 in front first, so they could not see where you were calling from. ( You could say you were abroad and wanted to make an appointment on your return...if you get what I mean) Has your provider a similar function?
