The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has teamed up with the communications watchdog Ofcom to censure broadband providers over the way they advertise their services. See full story here:

It's not spelled out, but I presume this is primarily the "line rental" factor.

Yes basically the ASA is considering a series of recommendations that would mean providers are bound to prominently display a single monthly cost for the broadband products on adverts and for line rental to be included in that price rather than as a separate cost. It's also expected to call for contract length to be made more explicit. |

Surely it would be possible for the companies to advise of the individual elements within the additional information on the advert/deal? What I think Ofcom should REALLY look at is the ever increasing cost of line rental for home phones! :o |
Title: Re: ASA/Ofcom slams-telcos-over-broadband-prices. Post by Ian01 on Jan 26th, 2016 at 1:40pm I guess that line rental has increased due to a large chunk of it effectively subsidising other services. |

Ideally, yes, but if a company only offers broadband on the condition that you take up their line rental, I can't see that there is any obligation on them to even have a separate price, let alone quote it. |
