You could not have searched very hard because the alternative numbers are on the database of this site.

The freephone number 0800 551 550 does work, I used it myself recently to renew my TV licence.

If you search for tv licence or tv licensing or just tv, all will bring up the results. The best thing to do when searching is to put in as little information as possible. Then, if you get too many results, enter either more search words, or another different search word.  ;)

Note that entering, for example, tv licensing centre will not find anything because the search program is looking for those words/letters in that order anywhere in the database.

0870 241 8209 is the number shown on a letter received.

I have a problem, in that the property concerned is vacant following the death of the occupant. I want to talk to the licensing organisation without paying them for that facility.

I cannot see an alternative number and despite lots of posts on the anti tv licensing website to which a post in a forum here recommended I cannot quickly see a number.

Please help, my time is limited.

Thank you

Try entering the number you're searching for into the Search to find an Alternative Number page !?  :-/

See the existing thread on TV Licensing, especially this post as there are several entries for it in our database which you can search by following the link provided by DaveM, above.

Thanks all.

I found it by entering  a different 0870 number found on their web site. I then updated the SAY NO search facility with the number I got.

Sorry to have wasted time by not coming back here sooner or doing the research more thoroughly before my original query. Unfortunately I was diverted to an alternative TV licensing website from the address on their letter to me.

Sorry if that is not very clear.

thanks to all search over.

Update for those who are very keen. It was my mistype that took me to the wrong tvliscensing.co.uk website site, and I have repeated it here.

It is horrible that people should seek to make profit out of mistypes!

I rang the 0870 number for TV licensing last week when I was away from home and did not have an alternative number.  I had moved property and wanted my current licence transferring.  Their 0870 number would not allow me to proceed as I did not have the licence number, so today I called 01254 700427 from the listings on this site and a nice guy changed it all for me without hassle.

Thank you Paul.  I did try the database and used every sequence for T.V. Licensing, Bristol I could think of but nothing came up.  Not even BT.com had it but thank you again for the number.

Margaret, our entries in the database are for "TV Licence (TV Licensing)" without any dots or the city "Bristol". "TV Licensing" brings up lots of different alternative numbers :).

Title: A new Number for TV Licensing
Post by Rude_Yoot on Jun 23rd, 2009 at 10:39am
Hello Peeps
Here is a new number to add to your collection - 0845 6001890. I just used the normal landline number and got through, but this number was not amongst your great collection. Keep up the good work !!!  :)

Thanks Rude_Yoot, I've added this number to our listings.

TV Licensing has also disabled some of its 0800 numbers, which I have now removed from the database:

0800 328 2020 "This number is no longer available. Your call will be disconnected." The call then disconnects. There's no redirection to any new number, so it appears that TV Licensing considers this number officially withdrawn.

0800 551550 Not recognised

0800 0850133 Not recognised - Was Welsh speaking line.

Since Dave's message in June - has anyone found any BBC/TV Licensing 0800 or geographic numbers?

Have you checked the database?  :-?

Search for tv lic  ;)

The only freephone number we had left in the database, 0800 0324690, is now not recognised. I think it would have been in service back in June when I posted, hence why it's listed. I've now removed it.

However, the working geographical number for TV Licensing is 0117 302 1838.  ;)

Thanks, Dave,

I'd already tried all the numbers on your list, without success. The only one that worked was the Bristol (0117) number - but I was told this was the recruitment line, with no link to the rest of the organisation. I also tried the BBC's main switchboard without success.
I'll have another go with your suggestion.

I've just tried it now and it is answered as it was yesterday morning when I made my posting: "Good morning. Thanks for calling TV Licensing. Just to let you know, our conversation today will be recorded and monitored for quality purposes. Great. Please choose from one of the following three options. …"

This is identical to ringing any one of the plethora of 0844 numbers. I sampled 0844 800 5800 and 0844 800 6734.  :-? :-?

Thanks, again, Dave.

Don't know what happened the other day, but this morning I had the same result as you. Gave up, though, after a 65-minute wait. With frequent messages telling me "you'll be connected to someone shortly". Excellent customer relations!

The amusing part was being asked to: "Press '2' if you have no licence".
Pressing '2' produced the cheery automated response: "Great!". Sounds like not having a licence brings extra brownie-points!
