Hi,

Just found out that the CSA that  was dealing with my case has now moved all its file for my area from Stockport, Cheshire to Bolton. I had 01 numbers for  Stockport but when I asked for Boltons number they gave me 0845 050 8488 I then asked for the 01 number olny to be told that the only number they had was the 0845 number.  I found this hard to believe. I can't find an alternative number on this web site, I have tried on the internet,  with no luck.
Is anyone out there having dealings with the CSA at Bolton and who might have their 01 number I would be very grateful as I tried ringing them and when it connected I was hanging for ages and I didn't get through. This only adds to the pressure of paying the bills, which I would have thought the CSA would have had more sympathy about, but I suppose they have got to get their money from somewhere.

The CSA website lists a few numbers to call when you may be calling from outside the UK (see this page).

Try the nearest one to Bolton from the numbers above.  You may have to play dumb and see if they can transfer you.

The problem is these are the main contact centres used by the CSA but each contact centre may have smaller offices helping them out and this is where I suspect your case is now being dealt.

If no success with the above, then post back with an address (including) post code as it could be its being dealt with in the local DWP office.

Thanks bbb_uk  going to ring either the national helpline for their address and/or Stockport because they did ask if I wanted their address to liaise via the post (and we know how long that can take) I will also try the Dudley number and act dumb, have done that before and it sometimes work. If and when I do find a number I will let you know for other members.  

I love this website and it has helped me alot in the past to find 01 numbers I have also past it on to friends.

Will let you know the outcome of my findings.

Funny enough we live in the Anglian Region and are gettting calls from Bolton and Crewe Offices hence the Bolton Office number.

I don't know if this will work but go to..http://www.csa.gov.uk/en/contact/call-from-abroad.asp and instead of 44 put 0 in it's place. It might just work and worth giving it a try. Dial 141 first to withold your number so they can't see your call is coming from UK.

The number suggested by CJT-80, 01851 768053, is the one I listed in the database a few months ago. Have you tried it?  :-?

Child Support Agency has a block of 01851 768xxx numbers for its IVRs (automated menus); ignore the fact that they are Isle of Lewis numbers, they could go anywhere.

The title of the thread is "Child support allowance" which does not bring up much, but in your posting you refer to the "child support agency".

You say that it is in Edinburgh, but do you have the full address?

Is there a website for this service?

I ask these questions because it might help someone find an alternative. Without them it is limiting the request to only those who "know" the number.

Thanks for the clarification. I've joined the recent discussion on CSA to the existing one for it.

A couple of years back (see above) I discovered that CSA published alternative numbers, intended for overseas callers, but which work from the UK.

Each office has a number for maintenance calculated before and after March 2003 (not sure about that which was calculated in March 2003). There are, to the best of my knowledge, six offices, or certainly six which have alternatives each of which covers a portion of the country.

The Edinburgh PO Box 20 EH91 5BD is obviously not a physical location (as it's a PO box). It would appear that it is related to the Falkirk CSA office. The alternatives for that office are 01851 768061 for where maintenance was calculated after March 2003 and 01851 768083 for before.

Try whichever of these applies and let us know how you get on. Let us know which you tried (and which works, or not as the case may be).

unfortunately they couldn't answear my question as the file has been sent to the clerical team in Plymouth and the number I have for them is  08450508485 so I am again looking for a local number to get through to them.
If anyone can find a different number could they let me know ASAP.

Thanks for confirming 01851 768061 as a suitable alternative to 0845 602 7428; I have added this to the database.

This site's publically available database of alternative numbers lists some entries for Child Support Agency (CSA) for its various offices. Even though no entry is listed as being an alternative to 0845 050 8485, it is worth looking through the listing for CSA as this may provide a starting point, or even perhaps an alternative.

In this case, the number for the Plymouth office is listed as 01851 768053 (for maintenance calculated after March 2003). I suggest that you try it and let us know how you get on.

In cases where there is a 01/02/03 number listed that works for an 08 number that isn't included in the entry (as may perhaps be the case here), please let us know by posting in the forum and I or one of my colleagues will update the listing.

After a bit of searching I came up with this page which is directed from www.csa.gov.uk

Then I clicked the "changes you need to tell the CSA about" link at the top, that took me to this page

I then clicked the "contacting the CSA" link and got to here

and then I clicked "if you are calling from abroad" at the bottom and got: +44 1851 768053 - which is 01851 768053

It's most likely a generic number, but I'd recommend calling it, and if they cause issues or refuse to help advise you are barred from calling anything other than an 01/02/03 number.

Please let us know how you got on.

There also appears to be an option to "e-mail" using the link on the contact page.

Sorry to hear that you're getting the run-around. These organisations really do need kicking into touch.

Well I got through to Falkirk and she says this is a clerical case and they can't deal with it !!!!. When I asked why it's through to clerical she says it's cos over a fault on there computer system and our case is on clerical, this is crazy the whole CSA is.on top of that she says I failed security even though I can talk about my husbands case!!!!!.

Just a very big thank you to everyone who has helped me.
I eventually got through to falkirk and spoke to our case worker.
It took an hour and half but i did it.
Just hope other people can get through and it's quicker for them.

Previously, we found that CSA had published +44 1851 7680xx numbers for "overseas" calls and these were the ones that are now not recognised.

I understand that there have been some changes to the CSA over the last few months. The new contact page is here and there is one "Child Support Agency Helpline" which is 0845 713 3133. It doesn't give any overseas number.

However, other nearby numbers are still in service. Here is a list of the 01851 768xxx numbers I tried:

Those in italics were listed in the database (now removed). Based on what I've found, it might be worth trying 099 and/or 100. Failing that, try some others in that range.

Or maybe what works and what doesn't varies over time. For example, maybe those that are na do work successfully sometimes, or maybe they always answer with that message.

Whatever you do, please let us know what you try and how you get on with each, so any that do work can be listed. All feedback will help us to help others with the same query.

You should call the new 0300 or 0345 numbers listed on their official website.

These always cost the same as calling 01 and 02 numbers and count towards inclusive allowances on landlines and mobiles.
