Title: BT Openworld/Internet Technical Support line
Post by jno on Jun 7th, 2004 at 1:24pm
Hi,

does anyone know this? I can't believe they want 50p per minute for technical support, surely there is a cheaper alternative - the obvious one being changing to a different provider.

The cheapest choice is to do like me and become a support engineer; if you want a job doing properly then do it yourself !  :o
Most support lines ask silly rates for support now to pay for it. Not reasonable you say ! You haven't been on the other end of the support line. I can assure you that 09xx reduces the number of silly calls. Oh, we still get them, but it leaves room for the deserving cases. If I came on a callout for a silly call it would cost you a Basic charge for 1.5 hours, at £40/hr, plus travel costs, plus parts (plus VAT) !
You work out the cheapest method and tell me which you'd rather pay   :-X

I don't suppose the BT Broadband support line (0870 2404650) is any good to you; 01912 184102  8)

If not, I will keep my eyes open for you just in case.

IMHO, complaint (sorry, customer service) lines should always be free. Complaints are some of the most valuable information a company can get.

Okay, as a compromise, have one free complaint number and one premium-rate one for those in a hurry and willing to pay to jump the queue.

Some BT Openworld numbers I have that may help:
0845-6007020   BT Openworld Helpdesk
0800-1690199   BT Openworld Status Update
The latter is a recorded message informing you of known problems, e.g. no broadband to Ipswich today!

cheers

Not disagreeing with you in the least but the request was for the Internet Technical Support number not the customer service number.
If you look carefully, I think you'll find their CS number is free ! ::) The Helpdesk is Support NOT CS !!
