Love Film run DVD Hire Services for many other companies including WH Smith and some of the big super market chains. It would be a handy number to get.

LOVEFiLM and Sainsburys DVD rental.

Asked them for their geographic number and the response was negative, see below:

What non-geographical do Sainsbury's DVD Rental use?

Is it 0870 607 0143? Have you just posted this in the database?

Please do not post numbers in the database without geographicals as the entry will be deleted.  :)

Found their numbers myself, which are:
Head Office: 0207 7517500,
Customer Support: 01279 773792

Most people will NEED the last number!

Companies house gave new HQ. Called 0207 7517500 and they are just the Directors HQ but gave me Customer support 01279 773792.

Called both numbers and they worked fine. Wish that the people staffing worked equally well.

Please list in database.

Title: Lovefilm - can anyone help any further?

Dear All,

Unfortunately the numbers listed (including unverified) for this DVD Rental Company aren't suitable.  The 01279 773791/2 (customer care? more like an admin section?) and 0207 7517500 (head office) say they can only give out the rip-off number 0870 240 1637.

I'd be very grateful if anyone else can crack this one ?  Full address details are included in this thread.

Many Thanks Again
Garry

Have you tried 01279 773793, 794, 795 upto 799?

This is indicated in the database in the Other Info column on the right. Let us know which numbers are what if you can, and which number(s) is/are customer services.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your prompt response.

I've just dialed 01279 773 790 and was told neither this nor the extensions 791/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9 are alternatives to LoveFilm's 0870 number (They're all extensions to their Admin Office, I was told).

When I tried to explain the rip-off nature of 0870 numbers, especially to increasing numbers of us who now have inclusive call plans (for free local/national at any time), the reply was that they're just an internet company and its up to me if I want to have such an inclusive call plan!!  We then discussed communication by email and I pointed out that a recent query to 3 or 4 emails to resolve taking 2 or 3 days!  The person also explained that they only give out the 0870 number because they can only obtain statistics using this number, not the geographic one?

By the end of the conversation, however, I felt the person concerned did appreciate my point of view and agreed to put forward my suggestion of at least offering the geographic equivalent where requested in addition to the 0870 number.

In short, I'm still seeking a geographic equivalent so if you or any other users of this site can help, it'd be appreciated.

Thanks again
Garry

I've thinking of having another go at obtaining the Lovefilm.Com dvd rental geographical number.  Previously I unsucessfully tried the numbers listed on the database, done my own internet searches etc and discussed at length the matter with a member of their staff.

I was thinking of emailing the company but wondered if anyone could provide me with an example complaint/request letter which I could then cut and paste from?

Thanks in anticipation.

PS I really think this site ought to have some kind of 'tools of the trade' section with template letters etc.  (If I'm missing this, please point me in the right direction)  This would make it so much easier for people to challenge the 0870 system!

Well, how about people on this forum write to their freepost address, and raise the exact points that you have just done.

If enough people write to complain using their own words as to why they don't like 0870, to their freepost address, they will see that customers are against 0870 numbers, and having to accept freepost mail, and send a reply (if they bother) on a few ocassions might get them to sit up and listen.

Hi Shaggadi - thanks for your reply.  I agree with what you're saying and am coming at this from the same position as you.  I think, however, to carry any weight such a response would need to be from subscribers to LoveFilm.Com, rather than just members of the public.

I'm still after a template letter that I could use setting out the main objections to the 0870s etc as well as requesting their geographic equivalent.  You probably think this is lazy but I don't believe in re-inventing the wheel even though I would add my own contribution to keep it authentic.

Don't you think having a series of template letters as part of the SayNoTo0870 'armoury' could help mobilise people who come to this site already feeling disgruntled about 0870 issues ?

I think, however, to carry any weight such a response would need to be from subscribers to LoveFilm.Com, rather than just members of the public.

Well, all members of the public are potential customers.  How about writing in to complain about their 0870 number, and make that the only issue.  Their customer services will deal with that issue alone.  If they look up their database to discover that you're not a customer, and then say "What right do you have to complain, you're not a customer" you can always explain that you wanted to ask a few questions that were not answered on your website, and didn't want to pay 0870 rates to do so, and if you take that line to potential customers, then I won't become one.

Perhaps if they received a response like that, and feel they lost out on a customer because they didn't want to call 0870 prior to becoming a customer, and paid for communication through freepost, it might add some weight to the arguement against them using 0870 numbers!!

I like your persistence Shaggadi !  You're a lot like me! ;)

And I accept that in sufficient numbers, member or non-member, it could prove persuasive to any company. I've been up for it all along but I'm not sure how many others would ?

What do you think about my other point - having a SayNoTo0870 tool kit of resouces i.e template letters to get people started which could be personalised etc etc

Sounds like a good idea.  But not too much like a standard letter, but mainly the points to put in letters, or when you're on the phone.  Points to include things like access from abroad, not charged at normal rates or inclusive minutes on mobiles, company makes revenue from calling them, and any other bad points to counteract whatever they say such as "There's no other number, sorry" or "It's a normal rate call"

But if companies start getting the same letter over and over, they don't take notice, and treat it as one complaint, but if they get loads of differently worded letters, then they realise people are speaking their mind.

Title: Anyone have a number for SainsburysDVD/Lovefilm?
Post by Lucycat on Mar 15th, 2006 at 5:48pm
Hello all,

I've searched on the site and through Google, but am not having much luck - does anyone have a geog. number for SainsburysDVD/Lovefilm? I want to cancel my sub at the end of the month due to the *lousy* customer service & have just discovered the only way to do it is through 0870 607 0143...the cheek!

Thanks in advance for any help,

Lucy.

In an email to WHSMITHS DVD Direct asking for info regarding my account with them I have explained about our view of 0870 and the SayNo website.  If they do respond to this I will let the Forum know.
I think a template letter is a good idea.

Numbers not mentioned on this thread so far and that are in the unverified database:
  • 01279 773783 Senior customer services person
  • 01733 231231 Switchboard: This is the only Peterborough number we have. You might like to try it and ask to be put through.
  • 01279 770080 Love film
  • 01279 770083 Says it's for Sainsbury's DVD Rental but can be used for Lovefilm requests.

I can't vouch for the above, so please come back and say what works and what doesn't.

Unfortunately i had no luck with the numbers above as all the lines were closed so none of them was a direct line.

I suggest that anyone wishing to cancel their subscription write to them instead as most other queries can be dealt with online.

Thanks for your help

After trying to cancel my membership of this film rental site, they demand that I should call an 0870 number to confirm my cancellaton. I think this should have been made clear in the agreement I first made with the company. But anyway, does anyone have an alternative number for this cancellation?

In addition to the numbers quoted in reply #20 there is 0808 2000193. Also "Reception" is 0207 7517500; ask for customer services.

Let us know which you try and which work.  :)

Thanks for the numbers. The company I am dealing with seem to be based in Peterborough but they may recently have been taken over. They have collected my membership fee for December so I will try to cancel my membership on the 23rd Dec. using the custonmer service number 0207 7517500.

No problem. The reason why I asked is because I wanted to know whether you tried the 0800 number as a result of the 020 number not working.

As the 0800 number has an alternative, and it (the 0800 number) works, then I think I will list it in place of the switchboard number. I will put a note in saying that it's cancellations.

Switchboard says it's open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm.
