I have searched high and low for an alternative verified (non 0845/0870) number for these people and had no success. If anyone out there could help it would be much appreciated.

It is likely that the Dept for Work and Pensions have outsourced the debt management function to Capita who have the same address as the one you gave. Try the geog. number given below.

The Pensions Credit line has an Option (2) "for any other issues". Use that option and the clerk will normally transfer you to your requested section without trouble. The occasional "JobsWorth" will demur, in which case tell them that your Package Provider does not permit Premium rate phone calls through their service. Being a "JobsWorth" the hint of authority usually guarantees instant compliance ;). Failing that, ring again!
