Perhaps I misunderstood.
Free national calls
Free line rental
For £19.99

What would it cost if they were charging for it?

The Broadband is £19.99p, they claim they  give you the  line rental and call package with it free. :)

Seems like a good deal on the face of it, but then you're tied with them for more than just broadband.

Normal broadband can be about £15 per month, and BT charge £11 per month for basic line rental.  You would then pay more on top (some companies can do this for between £5-10 per month) for the free geo calls.

It just depends on whether the broadband grinds to a halt after a few months, and you're stuck with an 18 month contract with not only your broadband, but your phone line as well.  They may also put you on a less reliable server than customers who can opt out at any time, so current Tiscali customers who receive excellent service might not receive the same on the new package.

Talk Talk have already had bad press from their similair offerings, but have also appeared in best buy tables who speak highly of them.

You mean there are some Tiscali broadband customers who actually think their service is reliable then? :o

Basically this is just the TalkTalk pricing deal in reverse with the phone line rental and calls being free and the broadband being what you pay for.  Presumably it will only be available on Tiscali LLU exchanges so not anywhere in the countryside therefore.  Its exchange availability will probably be similar to CarPhone's

This table makes for instructive reading about how people rate TalkTalk and Tiscali broadband vs other more specialist ISPs.  Namely right at the bottom of the list.  As the old saying goes there's no such thing as a free lunch:-

I heard quite a lot of bad things about tiscali customer services , recently i had some connection problems and emailed them for support but i didnt get any response from them for  couple of weeks but they promise to give you a reply in one one workingday's time in their web site. After that I threatened them that I am leaving if you are not giving me an answer within 24 hours , just imagine i got an answer and they agreed to send me a new modem free of cost which promised to reach in five working days. I am waiting for that and i will keep you all informed about the progress. ;D

Be careful gudman.  What Tiscali haven't told you is that if BT find nothing wrong with your BT line but decide the problem is your ADSL filter or modem/router then they will charge Tiscali £70 or so for making the visit. And Tiscali may well pass the cost on to you.

If you only use the internet a modest amount I would recommend www.newnet.co.uk and their £12.99 ADSL Lite service with 3Gb per month of data and extra Gb of data if you need them for only 70p per GB.  You always get full speed and helpful customer service staff with NewNet.  Also only 0845 number for technical support and there is a geographic alternative on this website/

You can see they are one of the top rated ISPs at www.dslzonenet.co.uk

Tell Tiscali they are not offering the service they led you to believe you would get in their marketing material and ask them to supply you with a MAC migration code to move to another ISP without charging any cancellation fees etc for early termination.  TalkTalk and Tiscali have both already agreed not to enforce their contract terms with many other unhappy customers who feel they are not delivering the promised quality of service.

i will try that, i 'm not using internet for massive downloads, so that should suit me.tiscali is sending me another modem- i dont know why they are sending another one. what will be the initial cost to migrate to the newnet ISP ? since i[m migrating from tiscali , do i still need to pay £35.25 as a new customer?
any help is most apreciated.

NewNet don't charge anything to migrate to them and their contract term is only 1 month.  So the only question is whether Tiscali would agree to release you from their 12 month contract slavery without charging penalties for leaving them before 12 months etc, etc.

Too true; try getting a MAC from them.  Absloute Hell :(.

Everybody closseted up in their own water tight box, not communicating with each other.  The only way to get them to react was to stop the direct debit mandate :-[
