Title: 18185  increase cost of  0870 calls.

Another sneaky  price rise by 18185, for 0870 calls this time, via 18185 access

www.18185.co.uk

Connection still 4p.( With minute billing).

Peak now 6p a minute,formerly 5p .

Evenings now 4p a minute ,formerly 3p .

Weekends now 2p a minute formerly 1p .

This means they no longer offer cheapest prices on 0870.

Peak can still be got at 5p a minute via www.dialaround.co.uk and some other 0844 providers.

BT is cheapest at evening and weekends  with 3p connection  and  Minute Billing.  3.5p a minute evenings  . 1.5p a minute weekends.

Note.

I have just noticed that if you use the 0808 freephone access number it still shows 4p a minute peak.

Thanks for that.

I've just updated the Cheap Call Providers - BT Landline Customers thread.

As Call18185 are cheaper by 1p/min for calls to 0870 during the daytime (all other times BT are cheaper), I wonder if it's worth me just recommending using BT for daytime 0870 calls.  This avoids the connection charge as BT don't charge a connection charge for 084x/087x numbers and more importingly for those with free CLI, it helps to ensure you dont pay for CLI.

I would be surprised if BT did not charge a 3p connection to call NGN Numbers ,as other suppliers who have copied their 3p connection , minute billing for chargeable calls do.

My mistake, I got it confused with whole minute charging  :D

Both your link above and the callsave website do clearly state the 'setup fee' will be applied to NGN's as well.

BT do charge the connection fee for 084/7 numbers - that's why they reduced their pence per minute rate for these calls slightly when they introduced the connection fee.  And Dave was the one pointed this out to me.

The only thing BT don't do with 084/7 calls is to round the charge up to the nearest minute like they do with calls to 01/02 numbers.

So Ofcom deregulating BT call prices and line rental has really allowed market forces to help lower the price of phone calls for the citizen consumer hasn't it. ::) :o >:( :'( :'( :'(
