From 1st April 2007 the number will be 0844 800 2855. The previous number, 0870 0115 795, will no longer be valid. The telephone lines will be serviced Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and can be used by people wanting to pay with credit cards. Bookings can also be made at www.ba .com/ads or at travel agents.

Surprise, surprise, it's a g6 cost call - 5p per minute at all times.

So they'll 'lose' 2p/minute weekdays but (not that they're open) gain 1½p/minute weekday evenings and 3½p/minute at weekends!

As I posted on the other thread, Going Places has changed all its stores numbers from 0870 to 10p/min 0871s.

Many many more to follow in the coming months. Clearly 03 was not an option! Screw the customer, we need our revenue. So, in a couple of years, when the public wakes up to being ripped off by a new set of numbers, ie 0844 and 0871, Ofcom willl be pressured into yet another consulation. The likely answer: let's introduce 085 and 086 and postpone any substantial decision for another few years thus prolonging the rip-off cycle for as long as possible. The UK numbering scheme is laughable.

Is there anyone with a functioning brain employed at Riverside House? Where is the Ofcom Consumer Panel?

Incidentally I received leaflet NI38 from the Inland Revenue (or whatever name it goes by these days) relating to social security for those living overseas. Every NGN listed in the brochure was accompanied by a GN equivalent. When will the rest of HMG realize that for those of us that live, work and travel overseas and need to contact HMG, NGNs are pointless. At least the IR has got it right here.

Probably because NGNs can't be consistently called from abroad.  It would be nice of you to post those NGN and GN equivalents to the database:
