Title: O2 - 0870 to 0844
Post by jgxenite on Aug 31st, 2007 at 2:23pm
I've just seen on http://shop.o2.co.uk/home that they have a new number to call. Instead of the 0870 number that was there, they now have 0844 2 02 02 02 (charged at 5ppm). Atleast O2 haven't opted for an 0871 number, but they've still chosen the most expensive 0844 number (for sales calls! Obviously they don't want visitors to their site calling them to buy mobiles...)

If you call o2 customer services from your o2 mobile, the calls are free and they tell you this when they answer the phone. Also it is UK based.

Only for contract customers I believe.  PAYG customers get charged and actually get charged more for calling c/s from their mobile than they do from a landline to an 0870 number.

I believe at one time, o2 online shop sales had an 0871 number but probably the threat of having to disclose the call costs and it being under ICSTIS remit has forced them to go for 0844, why by the way, they claim costs national rate.

You are probably right about free calls to contract customers. As I am a contract customer,  I did not realise you had to pay if you were PAYG. Best thing to do if you are a PAYG customer and want to phone them is to find a mate who is a contract customer and use his phone! ;)

Some numbers they specifically quote as free, eg childline.  But there are no 0844 or 0871 numbers currently listed .

As far as I know, contract customers (and I didn't even know this... I thought they came out your free mins) can call customer services for free but PAYG have to pay 40ppm (I think) or the 0870 number (which will presumably changed soon).

Easiest way to make it free is use the numbers here :D.
