Title: 090579 and nothing else on my caller display
Post by BillH on Dec 5th, 2007 at 9:34am
Hi all
Apologies in advance if this is a silly question, but came home to find 090579 on my caller display at 17:13 yesterday but as another number had called after that, I couldn't check using 1471.
It appears to be a partial number with call costs between 45p and 80p.
I'm puzzled by it not having a further 6 numbers after the "area code".
Could anyone please shed any light as to why it appears to be an incomplete number displayed?
Thank you
Bill

It is probably CLI dumping. However, there is always the possibility that it is a national dialling number within your local area (hence the dropping of the area code). Probably nothing to worry about - my philosophy is that if they want you, they'll ring again :).

Many thanks for reply. I did wonder if they had dropped the 01432, but Hereford numbers all start with a 2 or 3. Perhaps I shouldn't believe that the caller display is perfect  :)
Regards. Bill

Well, according to Ofcom, 01432 09xxxx is currently free for national dialling (so probably hasn't been allocated). My guess therefore is that someone has CLI dumped you, and either dumped an invalid number or tried to dump an 090 number and missed the last six digits off. Either way, probably nothing to worry about.

Geographic numbers do not begin with 0 (or with 1).

Geographic numbers "can" begin with a 0, as I mentioned before with national dialling numbers. However, they are usually a full number (so area code and number) rather than in abbreviated six-digit form (for five digit area codes).

So they can. My error.
