Title: UK Border Agency
Post by happy37 on Feb 21st, 2008 at 1:00pm
Hello all

Please can someone help me locate an alternative number to the ones that are already on this website as the main number that is slready suggested on here "no longer accepts incoming calls"!!! >:(

The main number 0870 606 7766 has an alternative number 8253 6700...how long has this change been in effect???

Does anyone else know of any other numbers that I can try please?

The number 8253 6710 does not work either!!!

Any ideas???

Regards

[edit]This thread is for UK Border Agency, formally UK Border & Immigration Agency (BIA), part of the Home Office.[/edit]

Isn't that a London number - so needs the London STD code (020) added at the front?

Hello Heinz

Thanks for your post - I am calling from London anyway  (I live in an 0208 area) so would not need to dial the whole prefix anyway, or so I thought!!!

Saying a number "does not work" refers to a whole manner of states. It may be useful to know in what way the number doesn't work so as to help us find a new one.

020 8253 6700 and 020 8253 6710 both say they do not receive incoming calls

The Border & Immigration Agency is part of the Home Office whose number is 020 70354848. BIA can be reached by dialling that number and selecting menu option 1.

Hello Dave

Thanks for your reply - to clarify, what I meant by it "doesn't work" is this:-

The number now does not accept incoming calls, whereas it did not so long ago!!!

Sorry if I did not make this clear in my initial post - I will try as the number as you have suggested and will post back in due course.....

Thanks for your help.

Regards

To confirm that the 888004 number does not work (at least, not without putting 141 in front which I couldn't figure out how to do on my mobile) - it automatically disconnects - but option 4 from the Home Office automated switchboard works a treat.

Hi all, am new here.

Have tried all the BIA alternative numbers posted above but they all just give you an alternative number (08706067766) if you're calling about immigration matters, option 1 that is. Don't know if there's a new number or there's another way of circumventing their 0870 number.

Much appreciated!!

Anyone adversely affected by the withdrawal of this geographic number should clearly submit an FOI (Freedom of Information Act) request challenging the policy basis on which the BIA selects phone numbers and whether it considered the relevant guidances from the Central Office of Information and the contents of Sir David Varney's report (Service Transformation - a better deal for citizens and businesses, a better deal for the taxpayer) in deciding to remove its geographic alternative phone numbers.

The BIA must surely receive a lot of calls from overseas so the use of 084/7 numbers seems especially unacceptable given the potential total inaccessibility issue when calling 084/7 numbers from overseas and the ridiculously high cost of calling these numbers from abroad.

See the COI Contact Centre Guide at www.coi.gov.uk/documents/gcc-third-edition.pdf from p.35 and para 3.51 onwards.

Do you have more information? Where have you got the number from? Is it from a form and if so, what is the contact address?

The main Home Office number 020 70354848, option 1 gives a list of other numbers. Work visas are 0114 2074074.

I am also trying to get the alternative number of 0870 606 77 66, however I have tried all the major numbers available on this web site but could not reach required destination.

I need information about Tier1 General and Tier 1 Post Study Work.

Its bloody hard even to get the line on this number and once you get the line it takes at least 10, 15 minutes to speak to the member of the HO. A 20 minutes call costed me £2.20 other day.. so very expensive and unfair... would highly appreciate i someone can post an alternative number and pull us out of this misrey.

Not sure what precisely your enquiry relates to but if it is anything to do with work permits call the BIA work permit centre in Sheffield on 0114 207 4074.

You could also try ringing their HQ on 020 7035 4848 and ask to be put through.

There is detailed information on the internet on the new PBS (points based system):

For Tier 1, General, start here:

For Tier 1, post study, start here:

Dear Lomps

Thanks for your reply.

The information I need is not available on the internet. I need to speak with member of customer services to seek the status of applications.

Sheffield number 0114 207 4074 do not deal with Tier 1 and Tier 4 (student) applications.

Does not matter how hard you try on other numbers (like 020 7035 4848, 0114 207 4074 etc) of HO, its a straight no, they never transfer your call to this number 0870 606 7766.  It seems like policy is very strict on this...

Regards

Riz

It is a disgrace what the BIA are doing with their their premium rate enquiry line - at same time eulogising the government's efforts to encourage highly skilled migrants from outside the EEA to come to the UK.

To minimise the damage call the 0870 number using one of the 6p or 7p/min access numbers listed on Martin Lewis's website http://callchecker.moneysavingexpert.com/ukcallchecker/index.php

If you have a general question rather than progress of your application please post it, I'll see if I can answer it.

I have used the site to search for an alternative number to 08706067766 which I want to use to phone regarding a settlement visa (SETM).  Many geographical numbers are listed including a Glasgow Office 0141 555 1258 which I used sucesfully 2 years ago.  Yesterday I phoned this number to hear a receiver picked up & then footsteps moving away & a door opening & closing - seemed like to stop the phone ringing.  I've phoned the other area offices including Croydon & there is either no answer or I get a pre-recorded message.

Many of these alternative BIA numbers are no longer valid.  It seems thet the BIA have moved over to the 0870 numbers only.  Does anyone know of a geographical number I can use to phone the BIA?

Kind regards, Simon

I've done some work on the database entries for UK Border Agency. They are all renamed from UK Border & Immigration Agency to the new name.

I have removed the following numbers:

0141 555 1258 Glasgow public enquiry office; now not recognised

The following have the same recording advising that the number is "no longer active" and refers to the UK Border Agency website:

0121 704 5450 Birmingham public enquiry office
0151 237 0405 Liverpool public enquiry office

There has been another request for an alternative to call the UKBA. The Home Office's main 020 7035 4848 menu now no longer puts callers through when they select option 1. Instead it just reads out the 0870 number.

Anyone fancy submitting a FOI request for the alternative to UKBA's 0870 606 7766 number?
