From what I can tell, the Student Loans Company still administers everything to do with Student Finance England. Their number (from our database) is 0141 243 3929 - please let us know if that helps you.

01325 391199 is the number for UCAS - they don't deal with student finance enquiries.

I think the best route is to try the existing SLC numbers - although the numbers are for Glasgow, those are the numbers the SLC still gives if you have problems accessing your account.

I had the same "All operators are busy" message on the usual number.

Call 0141 306 2000 and ask for Student finance England.

Worked a treat for me.

(PS If too many people use this approach they seem to like to close the line, as is sadly the case for the 0141 2433929 number)

The Student Loans Company (SLC) still run all the "background" stuff related to Student Finance, despite the fact the "front-end" has been re-branded. The alternative Glasgow numbers should still work to contact Student Finance (unless they shut them down of course).

The number referred to above, 0141 2433929, now answers with a recording saying it is "no longer available" and redirects to 0845 300 5090. I have removed it from the database.

The 0845 607 7577 number is listed in our database for student finance for a number of local authorities. It is, however, answered in exactly the same way as 0845 300 5090.

The recording starts of by saying that "Student Finance Direct" has been "re-branded" as "Student Finance England". Good of them to get their priorities right.  ::) ::) ::)


The male voice on the 0845 numbers is the same as that on many of the Student Loans Company numbers, so it's for certain they direct to one or more of its 0141 numbers.

Alternatives are:

• Student Finance England 0845 300 5090 / 0141 243 3600
  
• Student Finance Wales 0845 602 8845 / 0141 243 3960
  
• Student Finance Northern Ireland 0845 600 0662 / 0141 243 3591

These 0141 numbers answer in exactly the same way as the respective 0845 numbers.

Some further information on The Student Room here which gives a number for Darlington office 01325 215208. This may or may not be one of the numbers that the main menu directs to. I haven't listed it as we already have a 0141 number with the menu on.

Brilliant, thank you so much. Phone bills for 0845 numbers were starting to mount up.  I've recently moved house and have spent what seems like hours trying to ring expensive phone numbers to change details.
Student finance England have been holding onto some evidence documents of mine for far too long and I was fed up with waiting on 0845 numbers in long queues. Rang the 01412433600 number and spoke to someone within two minutes.

I believe e-mail addresses are of the form firstname_lastname@slc.co.uk (Note the underscore between first and last names)

Personally the Govt needs to stop using these numbers, especially for Students/Unemployed etc... but I digress..

As you're now registered on the forum, do post feedback on the database where updates are necessary, i.e. non-working numbers (say why they don't work), unverifieds that do work, other numbers that aren't listed as well as where 08 numbers have changed. Do this by posting in the Requests section.

The 0141 243 3660 number in the unverified list gets you through to the "Loan Repayment" department. The 0141 243 3600 number appears to be the one to use generally.

Just to confirm that the number 0141 243 3600 works great (as 3rd July 2012)  Just spoken to them, didn't have to wait and they were very helpful. Living abroad and 0845 numbers don't work from abroad so i'm very grateful.

Am I right in thinking it's this company we are talking about?

If that's the case, I am intrigued as to why NI, Wales and Scotland (all part of Great Britain) have 03 number while us in England have to call an 0845 number!

Scotland has had 03 for some time. Wales and Northern Ireland are more recent.

The Student Loans Company was recently savaged by Margaret Hodge and the Public Accounts Committee over their failure to move away from 084 numbers after it was highlighted at an earlier enquiry some 5 months earlier.

The 0141 243 3600 number goes through to the same IVR (menu) as the 0845, with the same preceeding message, so I suggest that it probably goes through to the same place.
