Hi and welcome to SAYNOTO0870.COM.

Telephone providers must charge calls to 03 numbers at the same rate as geographical (landline) numbers starting 01/02. Calls must be part of inclusive minutes where otherwise applicable.

What provider and tariff are you on?

Hi Dave

Virgin NTL

Tarif is that I don't pay for any calls that start with 01 or 02 everything else I pay for.

But have just found this number by entering the number 0870 521 0410 and tomorrow I'll call it and see if I get through without it costing me anything

020 7035 4848                             Home Office switchboard menu;
select option 4 for national helpline (same as dialing 0300 or 0870)

03 numbers are therefore inclusive as well. If they are not, then Virgin is breaking the rules set by Ofcom, the regulator.

I gather you are on the "Unlimited Anytime" tariff, information for which is here:

http://allyours.virginmedia.com/websales/product.do?id=10258

This says calls to 01, 02 and 03 numbers are included.

Hi Dave

Thanks

That's right Dave I'm on Talk Unlimited £7.95 per month

I called Virgin before I came on the Forum and I explained to the Operator (male probably Indian) that I didn't pay for 01 or 02 calls but he said that the 03 number I would have to pay for

The 03 numbers have been around for a couple of years and are in response to our campaign. All landline and mobile providers must charge for them on the same terms as they do for 01/02 numbers.

Either the person you spoke to is misinformed or Virgin Media is breaking the rules. I strongly suspect the former.

Hi Dave

Just called Virgin & spoke to A British operator and you are correct you don't pay for 01 - 02 or 03 telephone numbers.
So the other person was definitely misinformed

Thanks again for your good advice that you have given me again

But it's much more fun talking to Indian call centres where they obviously make it up as they go along.
