I just got a text message saying that the new number for the claims helpline was 0844 412 2127 and, looking at their website http://www.budgetinsurance.com/Contact-Us/ they have changed from 0870 to 0844 numbers. I don't know whether the 0870s are still in service but I doubt it. I have always used 01733 845000 without any trouble.

Hi and thanks for this. Budget Insurance is another company that has changed its numbers to follow the premiums.  :'(

The claims line was 0870 584 5678 which has a recording giving the new number, 0844 412 2127. I have added this to the existing entry for claims and can confirm that the alternative, 01904 663600, is still valid. This number is at Minster Law Solicitors in York and answers with the same IVR (recording/menu) as the 0844 number, so I think we can say that this is the direct alternative. Therefore, you might like to note this 01904 number, rather than 01733 845000.  ;)

That said, there are plenty of 01733 numbers with options to be put through to claims at Minster Law. I think 01733 845845 is a better car insurance number than 845000 as you have car insurance policy changes and claims on the same menu, and claims will put you through to Minster Law, same as calling the 01904 number.

From what I've tried, the old 0870 numbers were 0870 5 845 xxx and the alternatives are 01733 845 xxx.

Unfortunately the new 0844 numbers don't follow this pattern, but where the 0870 number is known, it should hopefully be easy to work out the corresponding 01733 number as they have not changed.

As jgxenite says, there are numbers for Budget Car Insurance in the database. 01733 845845 appears to be a suitable alternative.

Perhaps I can give you some advice on searching the database.

I usually search by one word. If that returns too many results not connected with what I am looking for, then I may add another word to it or use another word within the organisation's name (where there is more than one).

So in this case, I looked up budget , although a search of budget insurance would bring up the results, one cannot know whether they are listed as that in the database. In this instance they are, but consider an organisation whose name could be written slightly differently, e.g. it could sometimes be referred to as "Such and Such Medical Centre" or "Such and Such Health Centre". If you enter the name which is the one not used in our listings, then it will not be returned. However, if you just search for "such and such", then it will be returned.

Remember the old adage, less is more. Use less search words to return more results; conversely, more words is more restrictive.  ;)

Following Dom's posting, I added the 0844 he gave in his message to the entry in the database, which is why it now comes up with a number search. This is one of a number of published 0844 numbers, apparently for the same purpose.

Just used 01733 845000 with no problems. Still works!
