If it is a normal geographic number (aka, not a VoIP one) then it is highly unlikely. My limited understanding of how exchanges work leads me to believe that each area code (and in fact, even parts of area codes!) are routed to particular exchanges and can't be transferred to other ones.

This question is like asking how long is a piece of string? If it is a (023) 80 number attached to a VoIP service, then the likely answer is yes, you can take it anywhere. But you haven't said.

If it's your normal landline number provided by BT or Virgin Media, then I think you will need to approach your provider as it will be down to it.

The current 023 80 number is just a standard virgin media number.
