Welcome to the SAYNOTO0870.COM forum.

All we know thus far is that a geographical number is being sought for 0845 357 3626 which is "The Economist newspaper offer".

The 0845 number in itself means very little. It is a newspaper offer. Is that an offer to subscribe to the newspaper or an offer to buy a product? If it's the latter, what is the product and most importantly what is the company that provides it as that is the company? The company that provides it is the number you are looking for, the fact that it is promoted in the Economist is secondary.

CRW1303, please help by posting this sort of information.

On the subject of the database search engine, it works by finding exact matches. So nothing was returned when you searched for economist newspaper because there is no entry with that exact string in.

At present, there are three unverified entries returned when searching for economist but only two when looking for the economist and this is because only two have been submitted with the word "The" proceeding them. Now you hopefully start to see how best to perform searches. Less is more; enter as few a words as possible; preferably a single word. If it returns many results, then it is not the end of the world. Use either a different word, or two words.

Hi Dave

To elaborate, this morning I received an invite by Royal Mail from The Economist to ring 0845 357 3636  (quoting USB3) or text ECON to 60300 by 4th October to receive a free trial copy of The Economist and a 1GB memory stick containing a selection of articles from previous months.

So it's a flier that was put through your letterbox and nothing to do with any existing subscription or purchase of The Economist.

So who is the promoter? It should really give a name, address, maybe a web or e-mail address as well. In order to find an alternative, we need to know what company (and where) it is.

I put the 0845 number into Google and the first link is to LetsSubscribe.com. Referring to LetsSubscribe.com's contact page it gives the 0845 number as being for "Orders and sales". It also gives the following possibly useful information:

Customer Services
LetsSubscribe.com
Dorland House
14 - 16 Regent Street
London
SW1Y 4PH

Customer service: 020 7903 3052 or e-mail info@letssubscribe.com

Suppliers: If you are a supplier who would like to contact us with details of your products for including in our portfolio please call +44 (0)20 7903 3001 or e-mail product@letssubscribe.com

LetsSubscribe.com is the trading name of Subscriptions Marketing Ltd.  Registered No. 3434215.  VAT No. 709 9193 02.  Registered Office, 10 Orange Street, Haymarket, London, WC2H 7DQ.  Data Protection No. PZ5256184

Now we may be on to something!

As an aside, the contact page for The Economist gives contact details for subscription enquiries: PO Box 471, Haywards Heath, RH16 3GY, tel: 01444 475647, fax: 01444 445572, e-mail: economist.subs@quadrantsubs.com. I strongly suspect that this company (Quadrant Subscription Services - the e-mail address is the clue here) is not the company you wish to contact.

So it would appear that we are looking for a number for Subscriptions Marketing Ltd (LetsSubscribe.com).

Looking at what we have in the database, I found the following which may be relevant:

LetsSubscribe          0845 357 9999     020 7903 3950         [Unverified]
Economist             0845 357 8006       020 7925 3600             Free Product Samples department.  [Unverified]
The Week             0845 357 3003       020 7903 3950             [Verified]

It looks like the 020 7903 3xxx area is where we want to be. Try the number 020 7903 3950 and let us know how you get on.

Wow!  :o
An envelope was addressed to me personally, it wasn't a flier though not sure how they got my name & address as I've never had a subscription to the Economist or anything else I believe. The only details it has on it & the envelope is The Economist. There's nothing else. Address on back of envelope has return address; The Economist Newspaper Limited c/o PO box 142 Bedford MK42 0FA, UK

Tomorrow I'll try 020 7903 3950  first then 020 7925 3600 then 01444 475 647 & report back.

So it is either a letter in an envelope or a postcard then? There must surely be a contact address and/or company name/number. Maybe even an "if undelivered, return to…" address that may be a clue.  :-?

I was editing above when you came through, Dave.

Address on back of envelope has return address; The Economist Newspaper Limited c/o PO box 142 Bedford MK42 0FA, UK

It may well be that the company in question resides in MK42 (this is a PO Box, so it's not a physical address). It could be a third party provider.

The only other user of PO Box 142, MK42 0FA I can find by searching the internet is MS Society Publications.  :-/

However, searching for pages relating to The Economist which contain "MK42" yielded this page:
http://www.btbmf.co.uk/mailing_houses_fulfilment_pages/mailing_house_case_studies.htm

The fact that the 0845 057 3626 number appears on the LetsSubscribe.com website is the strongest clue that it is definately linked to it.

I will post further if I come across any further clues.

The Economist has something to do with the Financial Times part of Pearson plc so perhaps you have put your address on something that belongs to either of these two names, to get this offer?

I've renamed the title of this thread as I believe that we are looking for a number for LetsSubscribe.com.

I have just noticed that the OP says 0845 357 3626 and then further down that changes to 0845 357 3636. The latter is the orders number on LetsSubscribe's website. Which is it?

I am quite surprised that this correspondence that CRW1303 has received does not contain any company name, no reference to LetsSubscribe.com.

The letter inside the envelope has The Economist's red logo top right & is signed by Yvonne Ossman, Publisher UK. At the bottom of the letter it has The Economist Newspaper Limited Registered Office: 25 St. James's Street, ondon SW1A 1HG Registered in London number 236383
There's nothing more I can tell you apart from there was a flyer in with the letter saying the same as the letter with the same address plus VAT No GB 340 436 876
Letter is asking 'Where do you stand on the trading of human organs?'

All this just because I fancied a free memory stick. Maybe I should stay clear???

Please bear in mind that I haven't seen the letter in question and I'm only going on what you've posted.

A full address you've just posted, company and VAT numbers sounds more like a genuine letter. Google Yvonne Ossman's name....

Can you confirm the 0845 number on the letter?

0845 357 3626 on letter and on enclosed flyer

Googled & it says Yvonne Ossman is UK publisher of the Economist http://www.inpublishing.co.uk/kb/articles/yvonne_ossman_interview.aspx

The unverified alternative given in the database, 020 7925 3600, for The Economist and Mens Health is for Subscriptions Marketing Limited. It goes to a recording saying that they tried to contact you. This is a clue that it is Subscriptions Marketing/LetsSubscribe that you need to contact.

The other thing is the fact that the numbers are all similar 0845 357 ones. A company can have many sequential numbers, and if this (0845 357 3626) were to be a different company, it would be an incredible coincidence that the other clues suggestion a link with Subscription Marketing.

Another thing which makes me suggest that this is the case is that when they are open, the ringing tone one the 0845 number is more of a purring ringing, which is the same as the 020 7903 numbers, but not 020 7925. (The former prefix is allocated to COLT Telecommunications, and the latter is BT).

In conclusion, my money is going on Subscription Marketing being the company you need to contact. I think you should try 020 7903 3950.

OK, this is the situation. We called the numbers I said we'd call in my post at 5:05pm yesterday.
0207903 3950 Hung on around 15 mins three times THEN got a message that we could either leave our number & they'd ring us back or we could wait till an agent was free. Decided against both options.
020 7925 3600 A message said we were ringing them because they had already called us & we were returning their call!!!
01444 475 647 A message said that was a subscription centre only open Mon - Fri 8.30am-5pm

We will not be ringing the number they gave us on their letter & flyer which was a chargeable number for us 0845 357 3626

You have been amazing! It wasn't my intention to bother you like this at all. Thank you for trying your very best to help us.

I have one further point to make.

020 7903 3950 is (I believe) the general office number for Subscriptions Marketing/LetsSubscribe. If it is indeed the general office switchboard, then it's not surprising that there's no one there on Saturday.

The sales/orders number, 0845 357 3636 on the LetsSubscribe.com website may be open outside of Mon-Fri 9-5 and its alternative (answers the same) is 020 7903 3020.

If you do get through to someone, find out whether it's the same organisation that would deal with your call, had you called 0845 357 3626.
