Title: Blank lines within bullet lists
Post by Dave on Oct 24th, 2011 at 10:04pm
Bullet pointed lists can be created within postings using the [list] tag. Empty lines can be put within the text following each bullet and this is often done so as to space out paragraphs. However, if a blank line is left after the text where a further bullet follows, then the forum software removes this.

For example, this code:

Code (][list):
  • Line 1

    Line 2

  • Line 3

  • Line 4

    Line 5

    Line 6

  • creates the following.......

    • Line 1

      Line 2

    • Line 3

    • Line 4

      Line 5

      Line 6

Note that the blank lines left between Line 2 and Line 3 have been removed, as has that between Line 3 and Line 4. The empty line between Line 1 and Line 2 as well as those between Lines 4, 5 and 6 remain as these are not the last ones prior to the next bullet.

I've brought this to the attention of Forum Admin and there does not appear to be a fix.

However, there are a couple of workarounds for it:

    1. On the line that gets removed, insert a blank character by holding down the Alt key and typing 255 on your numberic keypad and then releasing the Alt key. This must be done by the numeric keypad and will not work if you use the numbered buttons at the top of your keyboard.

    2. Surround each bullet with its own [list] and [/list] tags.

For example, the above example would become:

    Code (][list):
  • Line 1

    Line 2
    • Line 3
    • Line 4

      Line 5

      Line 6

  • which gives.....

    • Line 1

      Line 2
    • Line 3
    • Line 4

      Line 5

      Line 6

There is a further complication here because, having tried it out, closing a list and then going to the next line and starting one again leaves two lines! This is why the close list is followed immediately with open list.

The Alt+255 character is by far the most straightfoward. Not ideal, I know, but these suggestions are the best I can do.
