Aye, but it has left me wondering about the best course of action in these circumstances...

1: In the interests of "keeping it simple", just use the unpublished 01/02 number.

2: In the interests of "making a point", use the published number, complain and then - presumably invoice the company for the call costs?

In most cases, whoever answers will have no idea whether you called in using the 0844 number or the geographical number (indeed, most will have no idea there is a way of avoiding the cost of the 0844 call).

Calls to 01 and 02 numbers cost me 5p regardless of duration (using 18185) so I'd always use the geographical number - and be satisfied with a verbal complaint in the course of that call.
