Recently ordered something online from the UK Apple store. According to the invoice this appears to be in Cork, Ireland.

From the invoice:

No mention of call charges for the 0845 number which anyway isn't allowed for post-sales support. The alternative is an Irish number. Is this permitted under current regs?

I don't need to phone them, just happened to notice.

Good Evening allegro,

I decided to search for the number on-line and found this which gives an alternative 0800 number in the body of the text, and quotes that 0845 number as "low rate" which is VERY misleading.

They should either have an 03 number, an 01/02 number or an 080 number for their "customer service" - Feedback on their website and I would assume automated e-mails can be provided here 

I would suggest including the first link I gave you as part of the feedback  :)

As far back as 2005, both Ofcom and ASA warned that 0845 and 0870 numbers must not be described as 'local' or 'national' rate. Other documents also warn to not imply a 'low call rate'.

Sorry, I should have said I already knew where to find an 0800 number for Apple customer service. I saw it as part of the online ordering process.

I suspect the 0845 on the invoice is an example of one that got overlooked, rather than a deliberate attempt to flout the rules.

One would hope that a company with the size and scope of Apple would have some sort of mechanism for compliance with regulations. And that some poor s*d of an employee or contratcor would have the task of trawling through all the company's literature, online writings etc to ferret out any problems.

No problems, I assumed you may have but just included it to be safe.  I agree with you, there should be someone who has the "envious" task of doing that.

I once worked via an agency for a major retailer on a help-desk, I pointed out several times that one of their contact numbers had changed (it was used for recruitment) to an 034 number, would they believe me... No! It's laughable sometimes.  :-?
