Title: International calls
Post by Nu on Jul 25th, 2019 at 2:17pm
My 87 year old aunt wants to ring Ireland, she's ringing an 08442002020, but her provider pop telecom charges 15p per minute on top thereby she has no saving.  Any suggestions please

There are a number of international dial-through providers on 03 numbers (and a small number with 01 or 02 numbers). Where the caller has inclusive calls to 01, 02 and 03 numbers, there is then no additional charge for each such call made. Likewise for anyone who has inclusive calls to premium rate 0845 or 0870 numbers.

There are a number of mobile providers offering very cheap calls to international destinations. A cheap mobile handset and one of those SIM cards may be useful.

Calling an 084, 087 or 09 number for these services has not been cost effective for a number of years. These are premium rate numbers.

I'd be surprised if using an 0844 number was any cheaper than standard international rates these days. Something like 18185.co.uk charges 2p/minute for Ireland.
