Title: Northern Power Grid
Post by allegro on Sep 8th, 2021 at 10:10am
I'm trying to track down the metering point number for a commercial property that I may be buying. The property is currently empty and tracking down the MPAN is proving to be a little tricky. The online service doesn't recognise the property:
https://myservices.northernpowergrid.com/supplier/index.cfm

It returns a page with a couple of 0845 numners, for different parts of the area served. In this case it's:
0845 3300889

I've checked the SayNo database for that number and the company but none of the number seem relevant. There's an email address I could try. Or I could try other Northern Power numbers.

Googling the number brings up this horror of a page, riddled with 0845 and 0870 numbers: https://www.mrasco.com/ufaqs/who-is-my-supplier/

The energy industry seems to be one of the last bastions of 0845/0870.

Good Afternoon allegro,

I have long tried to compain against the use of an 0870 number for Gas MPRN number location service, but I hit a brick wall with trying to resolve it.  Maybe I will try again.

Regarding Business MPAN/MPRN numbers have a look at this it maybe of help.  :)

It doesn't help that the property isn't even in the PAF as far as I can see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postcode_Address_File

I'm actually a trustee of a charity that's buying the building (as against me buying it personally). A fellow trustee works for Northern Powergrid so he's going to have a look on their internal systems.

Not really a point for this thread but when are Ofcom finally going to kill 084/087 premium numbers once and for all. It's very long overdue. They've dealt with 070, with little more than a stroke of the pen, so why not 084/087.
