HM Revenue & Customs - VAT Offices

These have now taken to using 0845 numbers as opposed to geograohic.

Would it be worth members getting onto their local office for geographic numbers?

There are 35 Inland Revenue entries on the database already - and another 8 (9 now, I've just added the Ipswich office, see below) on the 'Unverified' list at the moment.

I have just checked on the BT 118500 website for the number of my own (Fountain Ct, 119, Grange Rd, Middlesbrough, TS1 2AL) Inland Revenue office and, sure enough, 0845 366 7865 comes up.  The geographical alternative (01642 795000) is already on the SayNoTo0870 database.

However, doing the same with my wife's (Ipswich No 1 District, St. Clare Ho, Greyfriars, Ipswich, IP1 1LH) Inland Revenue office and only a geographical number (01473 261400) comes up even though they only give 0845 366 7824 on her January 2005 Notice of Coding form.

Hi
Just to let you know, the Inland revenue Ipswich number only answers with a message to call the 0845 number.
Cheers

Same with Oxon and Bucks office. the number listed in the database is a recorded message directing you to a different 0845 number.

I am unable to disover the landline number.

What is the "normal enquiries number" you tried?  Huh

This number is given as the alternative for a similar number: 0845 0109000. Also alternative for 0845 0000200. It is listed as "VAT enquiries" and if you search for hmrc it will come up.

Numbers in the unverified listings that may be of interest that are connected to VAT are:
  • Grimbsy VAT office: 01472 245945
  • 028 30256581 An alternative to 0845 0109000, geographical is Newry, Northern Ireland.
  • 0151 4726045 is VAT charities helpline (not for non-charity enquiries)

More information on VAT on HMRC's website here or look up local offices here.

I need to contact HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC)    Northumbria Area,  Aidan House 0845 3021456

the number given on this site is

>0191 2037178    Northumbria Area Processing - Ask for the department and they will transfer you

umfortunately they won't...... they tell me that number is for international tax enquiries only.  they can't transfer the call. they can't give out a geographical number for the relevant office. 'all local offices only have 0845 numbers'  who can I complain to - an 0845 number!

boo

From the HMRC website the geographic number for the Northumbria tax office is:

0191 501 6078

This is what they say:

The international numbers provide access to our Taxes Contact Centres for customers who are unable to dial 0845 numbers from overseas.

When you call this number prefix it with 141 to hide the origin of your call and, if necessary, tell them a fib that you are calling from abroad.

They have changed the last section of this address; the page address now ends with  /priority-lines-list.htm and NOT /prioritylines.htm

This site is indeed for agents.  Interestingly enough, the instructions on the site include this revealing piece of advice:

"The new priority line is for agents only, please do not make it available to the general public."

I do love to be a spoiler.
