Not sure where to post this, but can anybody advise me of the best place to report an advert on  British TV containing a 0906 number without the cost.
Is it ICTIS or Ofcom or what?

Juby.
If you have a complaint regarding content and or/ PROMOTION of a service running on a premium rate no ICTIS will deal with it.

If it's an advert try the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) Wink

Thanks again, actually its an advert for a variety of stuff including keep fit machines by a firm called Telsell.co.uk. They permanently display an 0906 number on screen without any indication of cost, I thought that was illegal in the UK?

They are to be found on FXTV (Sky 270, NTL 289) I was watching a rather good film on the channel last night, it is shopping before 1000 hrs.

I sent an email to FX before any further action.

I have just spoken to the ASA about another matter. They said if its any help
(That if an ad directly or by implication mislead about any material fact or characteristic of a product or service),they would take the matter up. I dont  know if this is any help to you.

Thanks again, but I have no complaint about their advertising at all. I do not intend to buy anything of theirs.

The complaint is that they are quoting a premium number costing 60 pence per minute, without any indication of the 60 pence. (Not even in miniscule print). I believe that is against the law.

Anybody here know?

I have dug out some guidlines provided by ICTIS. Having now read them.It says the service provider must state clearly in/on all promotional material the likely charge for calls.
If its on a TV Programme the pricing info must be spoken as well as being visually displayed if the call is likely to cost more then £2.

Incidentally ICTIS still refer to 0845 as local, and 0870 as national!!! Deep Joy.

Thanks again, I seem to have said that before today!

Deep joy indeed, ICTIS, they have not bitten through their milk teeth yet!

But you have given me enough information to go, so lets watch them fight against this one.

Will keep you informed.

0906 214 2216
i see that they do show (not very often) 25p a min on screen by the phone number.
i would have thought that it would have to be shown all the time by the phone number.
this is on sky channel 647 (only if you are sad like me)

I believe they are required under the regulations to state the cost per minute.

For complaints about '09' premium rate numbers, ICSTIS are the appropriate authority, and I believe that they can impose strong sanctions such as fines and bans.  ICSTIS rules require the price of premium rate calls to be declared.

ICSTIS, much like Ofcom, is a pointless body. It exists to serve its industry and that is all. It does not give a toss about the consumer. Sure, it makes a few examples of rip-off merchants and issues a few fines - most of which remain unpaid - but it cannot cope with the large number of complaints it receives from the public.

Scammers from Sao Tome to Tuvalu delight in the opportunities that the UK numbering system, managed by Ofcom, present so that a rapid profit can be made. Much like the 0870/0845 scammers, who can get away with extortion yet are outside the regulator.

For a developed country, the United Kingdom has the most ridiculous telephone numbering system that could possibly be imagined.

Clueless is the word that describes both Ofcom and ICSTIS.

ICSTIS don't require the cost to be displayed for 09 numbers which cost less than 50p.
Quote:
4.4.4 Direct-dialled services which cost 50 pence or less and are terminated by forced release are exempt from all ICSTIS requirements concerning pricing information.
