An interesting article which refers to the 'barrow boy' mentality of certain ISP's and the attitude of Ofcom to spurious claims of 'up to 8Mbps':

The ASA’s broadband press officer, Matt Wilson, seemed unaware that, for technical reasons, no “up to 8 Mbps” claim can be fulfilled: “If some people can get 8Mbps, then it’s fair to advertise that service as up to 8Mbps.” He insisted that the ASA’s role was to keep advertising truthful: “Performance issues are for Ofcom.” And Ofcom’s response? “If people are unhappy... they should contact the ASA.” Talk about passing the buck.

How many ISPs tell you how much you are downloading so that you know you are on the best package? Naturally, Ofcom do not make it compulsory that ISPs must notify their customers how much they use when they apply limits.

bethere is offering "up to" 24meg via phone line.
Would that mean they would feed 3 normal lines to the house? Don't care at the moment as I use TW 10meg service.
Any news from the real world about the potential 100meg service? The button pushers at TW seem to have no idea.

Be there use ADSL2+ instead of ADSL which is possible (but in most cases not likely) to achieve speeds over 20meg.  I also think that ADSL2+ uses the existing POTS frequencies as well to help achieve this speed boost.

Without new equipment by BT or cable, I can't see this being possible.  I think TW's current limit is 10meg based on their equipment.  I believe they are (or have) upgrading/upgraded their equipment to handle faster speeds but 100meg is still a far way off I think.
