Traveline
Sep 4th, 2006 at 7:16pm

Does anyone know the old number for Travel information in Lancashire (Preston 01772) or Cumbria (Whitehaven 01946).  They may have been old numbers used for travel info prior to Traveline starting.  Thanks for your help.

The database has various numbers for Traveline. 01772 824444 is in the unverified database under "Stagecoach" and is described as "Ribble (NW) Services from Manchester & Preston through to Blackpool & Fleetwood, return."

Try Googling traveline 01946 and traveline 01772. A glance of those results shows that Traveline Cumbria's website is www.traveline-cumbria.co.uk and a check of the site on Internet Archive revealed that they have been promoting the 0870 since at least July 2001.

This area is not covered by a public transport executive. Areas that are are shown here. Do you know whether there is such a body or do you contact the bus companies directly?

Also, are there any websites similar to Traveline Cumbria that are promoted around the area? Perhaps we can look at them on the Internet Archive to see if they used to use geographical numbers.

I understand that the following Traveline services are actually in:

Cumbria     01946     Whitehaven
Lancashire  01772     Preston
South West 01392     Exeter
South East  01392     Exeter
East Midlands 01392  Exeter
East Anglia  01752     Plymouth

The theee Exeter ones are obviously separate numbers but are in the same building.  I cannot find anythng about these on Google either.

It is strange, but that is where they are I discovered!

If anyone knows any more please get in touch.  Thanks.

BTW what wasthe number of the Office originally quoted under traveline with 0208 number?  Thanks.

Try 0115 950 6070

It's the number for Nottingham, but still close to Derby in the greater scale of things!

This is the number posted by Dusty Bin is for private bus operator, Nottingham City Transport. Thus, it's unlikely to be impartial.

There isn't one. We have made extensive searches to locate the 01/02 alternative numbers for all the individual Traveline call centres. A full list of the call centres is here. If you search the database for traveline, all the verified entries it returns are the official call centres which the 0871 2002233 (and the former 0870 6082608) number puts you through to. There may be some unverified entries under "Traveline", but they are not the official ones.

You are after the number for Traveline East Midlands which provides information for Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Northamptonshire, Peterborough, as indicated in the table.

There are three Travelines we haven't found yet: South West (
Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Bristol, Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire
), South East (
Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell, West Berkshire Slough, Windsor & Maidenhead, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Kent, Isle of  Wight
) and East Midlands.

All these are operated by Telephone Information Masters of Exeter, as shown here.

Well, their contact number is given as an 070 number, but the "location" page has the following number: 01392 20 20 61

Perhaps it is in that range somewhere?

I am confused, what are you suggesting i do to call traveline (Derby - 01332 area code), still dial the 0870 number?

At present that is the only option.

As I say, the Traveline call centre you will reach from Derby is the East Midlands one which also covers Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and the other neighbouring counties. This is operated by Telephone Information Masters in Exeter, thus we are looking for a 01392 number.

What is your enquiry regarding? Can you do the same enquiry on the East Midlands Traveline website?

At present, the best I can suggest is you call the 0870 number through 18185's 020 access number which will come from your inclusive minutes and the call to the 0870 number will cost a 4p connection charge plus 3p/min mon-fri and 1p/min at the weekend.

It appears that it is in fact 5p/min during the daytime. The 3p/min is the price shown on the 18185 website.

You can only call the 18185 prefix from BT (and some other) landlines. But they also provide 020/0808 access numbers, details of which are here. You would incur charges for dialling the 0870, as well as calling the 020 number from inclusive minutes.
