When you rang up, did you request the number from them? If they are unwilling to give it out, it might be worth putting in a Freedom of Information request.

I did request the number,I was the asked for what area and they just connected me.

Perhaps you could try ringing back, state that you don't want to be connected, but would like the actual number for your Local Link service so that you don't have to go via the switchboard in future.
