UK Border Agency
Feb 21st, 2008 at 1:00pm

Hello all

Please can someone help me locate an alternative number to the ones that are already on this website as the main number that is slready suggested on here "no longer accepts incoming calls"!!! Angry

The main number 0870 606 7766 has an alternative number 8253 6700...how long has this change been in effect???

Does anyone else know of any other numbers that I can try please?

The number 8253 6710 does not work either!!!

Any ideas???

Regards

Edited:
This thread is for UK Border Agency, formally UK Border & Immigration Agency (BIA), part of the Home Office.

Isn't that a London number - so needs the London STD code (020) added at the front?

Hello Heinz

Thanks for your post - I am calling from London anyway  (I live in an 0208 area) so would not need to dial the whole prefix anyway, or so I thought!!!

Saying a number "does not work" refers to a whole manner of states. It may be useful to know in what way the number doesn't work so as to help us find a new one.

020 8253 6700 and 020 8253 6710 both say they do not receive incoming calls

The Border & Immigration Agency is part of the Home Office whose number is 020 70354848. BIA can be reached by dialling that number and selecting menu option 1.

Hello Dave

Thanks for your reply - to clarify, what I meant by it "doesn't work" is this:-

The number now does not accept incoming calls, whereas it did not so long ago!!!

Sorry if I did not make this clear in my initial post - I will try as the number as you have suggested and will post back in due course.....

Thanks for your help.

Regards

To confirm that the 888004 number does not work (at least, not without putting 141 in front which I couldn't figure out how to do on my mobile) - it automatically disconnects - but option 4 from the Home Office automated switchboard works a treat.

Hi all, am new here.

Have tried all the BIA alternative numbers posted above but they all just give you an alternative number (08706067766) if you're calling about immigration matters, option 1 that is. Don't know if there's a new number or there's another way of circumventing their 0870 number.

Much appreciated!!

Thanks for letting us know. I've removed the following entry:

Border & Immigration Agency (BIA)       0870 6067766             020 70354848             Home Office switchboard menu
Option 1 = BIA enquiries
p/o Home Office (formally Immigration & Nationality Directorate (IND))
Also for 0870 2410645

Anyone adversely affected by the withdrawal of this geographic number should clearly submit an FOI (Freedom of Information Act) request challenging the policy basis on which the BIA selects phone numbers and whether it considered the relevant guidances from the Central Office of Information and the contents of Sir David Varney's report (Service Transformation - a better deal for citizens and businesses, a better deal for the taxpayer) in deciding to remove its geographic alternative phone numbers.

The BIA must surely receive a lot of calls from overseas so the use of 084/7 numbers seems especially unacceptable given the potential total inaccessibility issue when calling 084/7 numbers from overseas and the ridiculously high cost of calling these numbers from abroad.

See the COI Contact Centre Guide at www.coi.gov.uk/documents/gcc-third-edition.pdf from p.35 and para 3.51 onwards.

and

Sir David Varney's report starting at Page 53 onwards (p.58 of the PDF file) at:-

www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/d/pbr06_varney_review.pdf

Do you have more information? Where have you got the number from? Is it from a form and if so, what is the contact address?

The main Home Office number 020 70354848, option 1 gives a list of other numbers. Work visas are 0114 2074074.
