Question for anyone in the United States
Apr 7th, 2012 at 4:51pm

Can a reader who is located here see whether they can access www.ofcom.org.uk . I have tried for several days, from several different locations (work, home, cellular), all to no avail. Thanks, Ian.

Tracing route to www.ofcom.org.uk [194.33.160.25]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1     8 ms     2 ms     3 ms  home [192.168.1.254]
  2    27 ms    25 ms    27 ms  adsl-xx-xx-xx-xx.mia.bellsouth.net [xx.xx.xx.xx]
  3    29 ms    30 ms    30 ms  70.159.201.110
  4    28 ms    29 ms    29 ms  70.159.201.128
  5    28 ms    29 ms    30 ms  70.159.202.28
  6    29 ms    30 ms    29 ms  70.159.202.31
  7    29 ms    29 ms    34 ms  12.81.8.84
8  12.81.8.69  reports: Destination net unreachable.

Trace complete.

Are you still having trouble idb?

Using a proxy server I have just googled for, gemesproxy.info I was still able to access ofcom's website.

Just to check what IP address was being passed along, I used Privacy.net and it confirmed an IP address located in North America.

Unfortunately yes, at least from home, work and cellular. Thanks for the proxy suggestion - it works fine with a US one, although a tad clunky. Nevertheless it will suffice for the moment. I guess there is a problem with AT&T routing through Miami which is where my traffic is probably directed. At some stage they will fix it.
