05xxxx numbers - what are they?
Oct 11th, 2013 at 10:28am

These are new to me, except for 0500 which is an old free number. I was given a number 0551****** to directly contact a local branch of Santander.

What are these numbers? Are they some sort of premium rate? Are they included with 01/02/03 in call plans?

Numbers beginning 055 are Corporate Numbers. Those starting 056 are for Location Independent Electronic Communications Services (VoIP).

The Santander ones, which begin 055114, are charged the same as 01, 02 and 03 calls by BT, meaning that they are included in packages. TalkTalk might do the same, although I only checked the Talk Anytime UK plan, which does indeed regard these numbers as "UK landlines" for billing purposes.

Which provider are you with and which package are you on?

There are lots of Santander branch numbers in our database, but only one is verified. Please can you confirm that the number is for the branch in question (assuming you do dial it) and report back so I can put it in the listings as verified? If the 05511 number is in the 01/02/03 column (as unverified) I will move it out into the Other Information one as these numbers aren't treated as 01/02/03 numbers by all providers.

Some info from the sites below, they are a few years old but may help.

Thanks for the info.

I'm with Plusnet so it's likely the terms will be the same as with BT. I doubt I'll ever have to dial the number. I've been using the new 7 day transfer scheme to move a bank account to Santander 123. They've already fouled up twice.

It's not as if I really want to bank with Santander who aren't exactly noted as having good service. It's just that financially it would be daft for me not to be with them. I'm keeping another current account with Firstdirect Wink

Plus Call tariffs list Specialised Number bands without defining which prefixes are in each band. Assuming that the BT bands apply then 055114 are g21 which, according to that page, cost 13.87 pence connection plus 4.99ppm during the daytime, 2.04ppm in the evening and 1.20ppm at the weekend.
