Daily Mail Shop
Sep 10th, 2016 at 12:58pm

Has anyone come up with a geographical or Freephone number for the Daily Mail Shop?

The one I have is 0843 493 5000 or 5003

The 5000 number gives a 0333 255 7109 but this doesn't seem to work.

The 5003 number doesn't give an alternative.

I have e-mailed Mailshop as their after sales / customer service contact number is in breech of regulations (EU Consumer) as it is 0843.  It's listed here

They are part of the http://www.bvg-group.co.uk/ group of companies.

who appear to be in breach of the EU regs for all of their brands. Shocked

Good Morning,

The appear to have their "response" to this constructed..

Quote:
Good Morning

Thank you for your email.

The new government legislation states that we must provide a number for our customers to contact us at the basic rate. We have checked this on OFCOM and BT sites which both state that the basic rate ranges from 11-19ppm. The 0843 number that we supply our customers within this range at 13ppm plus your phone companies access charge.

However we thank you for your concern and passing on your feedback.

Kind Regards

Key points:  The regulations specifically prohibit the use of 0843/0844/0870/0871/0872 numbers, thereby the response given by MailShop or BVG is null and void...!

Any other points to make?

They simply need to read and understand one particular paragraph in Section J of the BIS implementation guidance. It states that 084 and 087 numbers do not comply.
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/429300...

You could point out that the Access Charge for 084, 087, 09 and 118 numbers is up to 55p per minute, making the total call price way outside the range they have stated - but that 'range' is nonsense anyway. The important point is that they cannot use a number that has an additional Service Charge.

Thanks Ian,

I will include the "Access Charge" element as well as restating the fact that 084/087 numbers do not comply!
