Title: JobSeeker Direct
Post by Gary Levine on Jun 23rd, 2004 at 11:09am
Does anybody have the geographical number for Jobseeker Direct (0845 6060234) - part of the Jobcentre Plus network and Department for Work and Pensions.

As an employee of the DWP, I can reveal that I haven't a clue.

I do know that some of these aren't static call centres so it may be that there isn't one.  ::)

Hell they even setup a Call Centre for our HR, and that is an 0845 with no geographic equivalent(so they say) even tho it is located near Blackpool.

All 0845 and 0870 services are attached to a Geographic number, not necessarily the same one all the time. They can be re-allocated as required as I have explained in other postings.

So just tell me how the pseudo email address finds its way to you ?  That's easy!  It's attached to your TRUE email address. The same thing applies with the 0845/0870 number. It has to be attached to another number or else how does it get to its final destination   ::)

Sound reasonable ??  Good !  Now go and kick hell out of them and tell them what I've told you and demand the truth . . . .  No, you'd better not.  It might upset them.  :'(   Just root around a bit until you find it and let us know if you can. We promise we won't tell anyone else.  It'll be OUR secret, HONEST   :-X

If you call Gloucester JobCentre+ on 01452 365100 and ask for JobSeekers Direct they will connect you through, but they will not give out the number.

Hi everyone

I'm trying to find out the geo number for Jobseeker Direct, 0845 6060 234

I'm helping out a few people getting a job and past experiences meant major queuing periods. I'd like to use the service from home through 18866 so, using a geo, the call would be free (well, 2p... )

The search facility comes up with 0151 353 4701. This is Jobcentre Plus 'New Claims' which is quite useful, but not Jobseeker Direct.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks.

well I know the local Dole office is 01553 734900, so that might be helpfull if you can get them to give u job details.

Well there's the problem !
If they're busy they'll either -
  • Not answer the phone (they're busy) !
  • Ask you to ring the 0845 number (they're busy) !
  • Ask you to come down and ring it from there (it's free) !
  • Ask you to make an appointment !
Great choice eh!?   :-/

The number in the database is for New Claims but they can transfer you as they're in the same building.  I know this because I just asked them (spent 10mins in a queue).

For those wanting job enquiries then just say that your local jobcentre gave you this number and you have already been in a queue and they'll transfer you like they transferred me (I then had to spend 5mins pretending I was after another job - lol).

As I know they are based in the same building, I'll over the next week or so, try different number combinations to see if i'm lucky and get the number for job search enquiries.

What I've managed to find so far is that they operate a number range from 0151 353 4701 to about 0151 353 4780 and then random tests after that appear no luck until I get 0151 3534801 (which this appears new claims as well).  I'll keep trying every now and again for higher ranges (the lower range (.. 4650) appears to be used by Hugh Baird College in liverpool).

Actually, they DON'T transfer you to Jobseekers direct because I did this 4 times (spoke to 4 different staff) and they all said they can't transfer you to them any longer. Maybe some did before but now they don't

the geographical number 0151 353 4720/35

Title: Re: Jobseeker Direct
Post by bbb_uk on Jul 28th, 2005 at 12:16pm
I have put in an FOI request for the geographical numbers for JobCentre Direct.

In the meantime I discovered that they use numbers in the region of 0151 353 4701 to about 0151 353 4780 (as mentioned in my last post).  Some numbers may not exist.

I personally don't think you get through any quicker because calling the 4701 number appears to put you through to the next available person.

When I was trying these numbers I got through to some staff (again new claims though) that were surprised to receive a call from the public because they had put their phone as busy (therefore they shouldn't have received any calls about new claims) but because I had dialled direct I got through.  Therefore if this happens just claim you don't know how you were put through to them because you rung the 0845 number and therefore it must be a problem with their call handling equipment.

When they finally answer the FOI request (and assuming they provide the geographical alternative) then I'll add it to the database.

Title: Re: Jobseeker Direct
Post by gtz101 on Sep 5th, 2005 at 10:51am
yes that number you stated above is only for new claims and its jobcentre plus NOT jobseekers direct.

Title: Re: Jobseeker Direct
Post by bbb_uk on Sep 5th, 2005 at 11:48am
I know - thanks.

The reply to my FOI so far has been that they've released the geo for new claims (which I already knew and is the number in the database) but they had queries over the geo for job searches so that is still ongoing.

with a bit of help from Dave!  :)

Few months ago, Dave suggested that JSD has a specific range (in which the last 4 numbers end in) between 4701 to 4780.

So, I tried a few, and it happened to be 4760 so that how I got it.  :)

ok,

Title: Re: Jobseekers Direct (geographical number in here

it allows you to ask for information about a gov department.

such as "what is the underlying geographical number for the 0845 which you use". Or "what company provides your telephone equipment"

take a look at the FOI thread and youll see more,

You've never head of the Freedom of Information Act?  :o

Government offices and certain other organisations such as the BBC are covered by this. You can put a request in to a body asking for whatever you want to know about. See this page. Also, have a look in the FOI section on this forum for some examples.

That is the point, they do. However, there are some parts of the Act that they may use to prevent the information from being disclosed, 'get outs' if you like.

I suggest you read some of the threads in the FOI section.

BTW, Jobcentre/Jobseeker Direct is a government agency, not a company. It does not apply to private companies. It does apply to government offices, departments and agencies.  ;)

Just in case you were thinking of doing an FOI it may not be worth just yet as I'm still waiting on my internal review.  See here for details of the FOI response I received from them.

When I used to have unlimited landline calls and was bored one day i dialed all the numbers in manchester that belonged to the jobcenter. Most of the offices were 0161253****  so started 0001 and worked my way up. I got many departments and found out who was who.
Some offices now have moved away from 0161253 number now but many still have. I cannot check them now as no longer have free calls. but someone could do that and see how many they come up with.
The same with Shefield head office, there are at least 5 jobseekerdirect numbers either side of the head offices 0114 number

This thread also seems relevant to the ongoing discussion on this issue:

www.saynoto0870.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.cgi?num=1121788695/15

It seems we have not got very far here on this one with the DWP.  As this is a public sector matter and one on which the government are clearly utterly and wholly in the wrong I am surprised to not find SCV firmly on the case here.

Hello and welcome to SAYNOTO0870.COM.

It would be helpful if you provide some basic information, as suggested in the guide for posting a request.

I assume you're referring to the national helpline, 0845 606 0234. The best advice we can give is that you look to contact your local Jobcentre office. I posted guidance for finding a number is here. If you find a suitable number (assuming that there isn't already a verified one in our listings), then please post it on the forum in the thread I've just linked to and I will put it into the listings.

Yeah it's the 08456060234 number. They want people off the dole but charge extortionate rates for people just to get job details. Why not just put how to apply for every vacancy.

Jobseekers Direct 0845 6060 234 now operated by VERTEX Customer Management Services

Vertex Customer Management Services now support the Government by delivering the Jobseeker Direct telephony service.

Customers call the Jobseeker Direct 0845 6060 234 number to search for jobs in the usual way.

Customers give their National Insurance Number, Name, Date-of-Birth and Address to the Customer Service Agent, who then gives out Job Details or carries out a Job-Search.

Vertex responds to a proportion of 100,000 Jobseeker Direct customer calls per week and supports Jobcentre Plus by answering these calls.
