Unlocking a Mobile Handset
Mar 26th, 2005 at 10:55am

I have 2 mobiles which are both currently locked to the Orange PAYG network, but I was considering switching to a different provider.

However, Orange charge a £20 "unlocking fee" and this is slightly off-putting as I don't spend that much on topping both phones even in a year! Roll Eyes

Is there another way to get the phone unlocked without the hefty charge? ???

There are some Internet sites which claim to offer codes to do this for free. However they seem to be restricted to certain handsets.

I have never used these myself but I have heard reports from others who claim to have used them and found it to work with their locked phones. I believe that the worst that can happen is that you might find the codes given with one site do not actually work with your phone. Then try another site. The phone cannot be harmed by abortive attempts. The worst that might happen (doubtful) is that you might find it more difficult to unlock. Worth a try?

If you are interested to try just do seaches for things like "unlocking mobiles phones" until you find a suitable site.

Try your local non national mobile phone shop.  The going rate on Thursday for my son's sony-ericson was £10.

Some phones are much easier than others. s-e need a cable and software to run on a PC costing more than £20.

There's usually dodgy characters down the pub that can unlock a phone for a tenner Smiley

Two phones:

Sagem MyX-7
Nokia 3330

I found a Nokia site but it involved some elaborate downloads - is there a site where you simply type in the details and get the code?

Also couldn't find any sites for my Sagem Cry

Well the Nokia 3330 is easy enough, download any DCT3 unlocker, or use this one here...

as for the sagem one... Good luck finding someone in the streets to unlock it, let alone online... sagem phoens are a bitch to unlock, as codes DO NOT WORK, u need an unlocking clip... or possibly a datacable and unlockign software depending on the firmware of the phone...

or by typing *#06# from the mobile when its turned on, on the main screen...  there is the slim chance that that version may not be the orginal one... its possible for people to change the IMEI on a mobile thats been stolen and blacklisted.... the one under the battery is always the legit, orginal one...
