Cheapest Calls List
Jun 9th, 2005 at 5:23am

Is it possible to amend or update the cheapest calls list on this site. One particular thing that needs adjusting is that it suggests that the cheapest way to access mobiles on weekday evenings is 18866 12p.When in fact 1899 10p is cheaper.(Apart from calls to Voda). Many thanks.

Hi Daniel,

Can I add that calls to mobiles via Call18866 are now 3ppm (2p connection charge) at the weekends.  Call1899 charge the same except have a 3p connection charge instead of Call18866's 2p connection charge.

Also, during the daytime Dialaround.co.uk charge 2p per min to call a 0845 number (via access number 0844 462 48 48 ) and charge 5p per minute to call a 0870 number (via access number 0844 566 75 75).  During the evening&weekends then BT is cheapest as far as i'm aware.

UPDATE:  I couldn't find any mention of 'Euphony Free' and the first 5mins free on Euphony's website.  They may have possibly withdrawn that tariff now!

Thanks

Kev.

Hi Kev,

I have made those amendments that you correctly pointed out  Smiley

I think you may be correct with regards to the Euphony Free tarrif - I have therefore replaced this with what I believe to be the next cheapest - 18866 @ 2p/call.

Thanks again

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Having just read this thread posted by pricefighter from the MSE forum, you can now use a company called AbroadTel.co.uk to dial a UK mobile at only 5ppm via access number 0844 452 0005.

Therefore, you may want to amend your cheapest call rates for mobiles to the above.

AbroadTel (at only 5ppm) is the cheapest for daytime and evening calls only.  During the weekend Call18866 are still the cheapest.

Kev.

PS: Thanks to pricefigher for finding this and posting it.

Hi Kev,

Thanks for the information.

Are people successfully managing to call mobile phones using this number ??? - As at that price, it does sound like a mis-print.

Thanks
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Yes.  I've just tried it myself and it said I was being charged at 5ppm.  I cant as yet confirm this with BT as their specialist number price list isn't working but you can connect.  I shall post back here once I get confirmation that the 0844 number is charged at 5ppm.

Also, you have to enter the mobile number in international format.

Kev.

I've had problems with the BT price list since they shuffled it around! My shortcut now doesn't work so if you get the new link, post it here will you please Kev.

The other one I use is the very useful MAGSYS website Codelookup, which says that 0844 452 0005 is charged at 5p as mentioned.

I'd say they've done that deliberately.

It's 5p/minute on Onetel and they normally follow BT prices closely.

I've updated the 'Cheapest Call List' now with the 5p/min mobile service.

Thanks for pointing this out,

Managed to find it.  Its in PDF (Acrobat) format now which you can download here.  I managed to find it on this page near the top.

It definitely is 5ppm as its defined as g6 charge.

Now I am confused again.  Your Residential Prices Information Service PDF find lists 0870 as 7.91p.min whereas, THIS PAGE shows the 7.51p/min price which I thought nearly all of us (on BT Together Option 1) were now charged.

Recent postings on the MSE site seem to indicate a problem with dialling 3 mobiles using this 0844 number.Other UK mobile networks seem ok.

7.91 is the 'non-discounted' rate, 7.51 is the 'discounted' rate. This is BT's definition, as some calls cost more on the 'discounted' tariffs than 'non-discounted' ones. ???

See What's the 0845/0870 rip-off all about? and Numbering and pricing information for more information.

Kev

I noticed that on the same page you gave is also the item - Quote:
For customers wanting to know more about the recent withdrawal of the pricing information service
which explains why my link no longer works !  Undecided

I also noticed the different 0870 rates on the BT
UK Call Prices
page mentioned by Heinz.

0845          3.00          1.00        1.00
0870          7.51          3.75        1.50
0870 09          4.95          2.49        2.00
0870 187      4.95          2.49        2.00
