Help - how to respond to OFCOM
Nov 1st, 2005 at 8:50am

I must be slow, but how do I submit a response to the NTS proposal?
I went to Ofcom site and can locate the 'cover' page, but what do you do then?
Is this an Ofcom plan to put you off replying?
Works well, as I am almost about to give up on it!

I sympathise. There's a lot of information to wade through on this site.

You can e-mail comments to:
nts@ofcom.org.uk

Or send comments to:
Clive Hillier
Competition and Markets
Fourth Floor
Ofcom
Riverside House
2A Southwark Bridge Road
London SE1 9HA.

Fax: 020 7783 4103

And to get an idea of what others are saying, you can read the comments made to Ofcom on 0870 and 0845 numbers here:

http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/condocs/nts_forward/responses/

Hi begginer,

Yes it is true that Ofcom make everything as difficult and apparently complicated as possible to attempt to put off ordinary consumers from responding to their consultations.

The easiest way to respond is to send an e-mail to the address given. Look for tips in the discussions on this forum for the points you should cover in your response.

If you want additional help I produced my response using an independent  site which comes up near the top of the first page if you do a search for "0870 scam", "0870 rip-off", "0870 scandal", "0870 racket" or "0870 violation" etc.

Dear All,

The original post (thanks, beginner) again shows that this site could be doing more to assist people with responding to Ofcom's 0870 consultation.  I am a fan of this site and don't wish to moan but just think more could be done!

Perhaps the link from the Countdown Clocks should be changed so it points to a new, sticky and locked thread called something like "Guide to Responding to Ofcom's Consultation" and contains a summary of the main arguments against  0870 usage etc, Ofcom's email address and contains a handful of useful links (summary document, responses so far etc etc).

Not everyone is like beginner and goes to the trouble of seeking further assistance and many others might well give up!
Cheers
Garry

The problem I had was that there was no easy way to see -on the Ofcom site- how to make a response.
I was hoping for a box of some kind that you could just write in and click 'send', straight from their site.  Obviously that must have looked too easy, particularly when the 'consultation' was such a load of deceipt.

There'll be more people looking for an answer to this question after a plug for the website on page 6 of this month's issue of Which? magazine.

The article is about the Ofcom consultation and begins: "The cost of calling 0870 numbers is set to plummet."
