Why Can't I Edit My Own Posts Any More???

On returning to the forum today after many months of not posting here I was disturbed and disappointed to find that it is no longer possible to edit one's own posts even within the usual permitted 24 hour window after making them that is customary on the majority of web discussion forums.

Could the forum administrators and/or owner please enlighten us as to why this facility has been removed and why members are no longer allowed to edit out the errors in their posts that they all too frequently cannot manage to spot until after they have posted them on the forum.

It's the MODIFY button at the top right of your own post. There's a cut off time after which you cannot make any further edits, but that is many hours after the original post.

The Modify button on your own posts is back now but only after Dave took the whole forum offline for an hour or more for some kind of database rebuild. When I looked for it earlier it wasn't there.
