Relatively new service i have seen a number of Trading Standard Departments recommending.

" Do you get annoyed when you fill in a form and have to enter your phone number even when you know that the company doesn’t really need it?

What are they going to do with it? Who will they give it to?

Nothing to stop you doing this sort of thing yourself.

EG. Get a cheap 01/02/3 number from someone like www.flextel.com put it on voicemail response only,leave a suitable voicemail message .
Whats more it will email you who has called in case its important.

Or you could do the same with a payg mobile number.

Indeed not.

One advantage of using the trueCall service is that they will aim to monitor those who call these numbers, as they do with calls trapped by the trueCall "call blocking" devices.

This could provide valuable intelligence for the enforcement agencies that prohibit use of unsolicited telephone marketing, rather than relying on the efforts of many individuals, to collect the data and present it in a consistent and usable form.

Yes their is that good point.

And of course it enables them to sell more products.

They have added an extra 8 at the end. I presume its merely for cosmetic purposes. The number answers after you have dialled seven 8,s.

They indicate it could cause problems on their site.

" Note: Some online forms are very fussy and won't accept the full trueCall38 number. If the number is rejected then enter 0333 8888 888 (three threes, seven eights). "

I know a company who did the same thing to make their mobile number look better . It ended 12312 they added a 3 to the end to get 123 123. It rang after 12. Some forms would not accept it and the networks would not send texts to it.
