Albert Hall & Proms - yet another offender
May 4th, 2016 at 6:31pm

From an Albert Hall email today:

Quote:
If you have any problems with your online account, please contact the Royal Albert Hall Box Office on 0845 401 5040* before booking opens on Saturday 7 May.

* Calls cost up to 5p/min from most landlines (an additional connection fee may apply). Calls from mobiles may cost considerably more. All calls will be recorded and may be monitored for training and quality-control purposes.

The Albert Hall's own web page gives an 020 number for the box office: http://www.royalalberthall.com/your-visit/contact-us/

The BBC web page relating to Proms bookings gives both 0845 and 020 numbers without the proper statement of cost of the 0845 number: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/3K8zlfLQBHNmVSxR5ccfgz6/how-to-book

It's frustrating that after nearly a YEAR since the changes were made with regards to call costs to 084/087 numbers websites continue to get it wrong!

I am not exactly shocked that the BBC has got it wrong, but they still need telling...

I would complain (if you have not already done so) to the BBC Here and to the Royal Albert Hall (in the case of their e-mail) Here

Perhaps then things will be updated and they will get the message.

It will take decades, if ever, for these issues to be fixed.

Sixteen years ago, London changed to a single 020 area code. Thousands of sites still present these numbers as if London has three or even thirty area codes.

Twelve years ago, a distinct 'local rate' ceased to exist and certainly no longer applied to 0845 numbers. Thousands of numbers are presented with this false claim.

Getting people to state call costs correctly will take just as long.

I agree totally with what you have said.  Even to this day as you have advised the London dialling code is STILL given out in the wrong format... however education (whilst exhausting) is still a worthwhile thing  Smiley

Together we can ALL make a difference  Smiley Smiley
