I phoned the 0800 number and ignored the request for my phone number. Eventually, it dialled another number and put me through to customer services who after verifying me put me through to customer services.

I have to reschedule a Sky installation, the number I was given to use was 08705 95 95 95.  Funny thing was, upon asking how much this call would cost, the reply came back that it was free from our landline, but from a mobile depended on the operator!  Can this be true? A 0870 number being free??  Or is the guy having me on?

It wasn't a free call.  They lied.

From a BT landline it costs 3p connection and 7p/minute peak to call.

I am just gobsmacked at the blatant lies these people make!  I mean really, it wasn't a mistake - on second questioning, he repeated this statement.  It makes me wonder what kind of a company I will be dealing with.

It *could* be true. For example, the 0870 number for TalkTalk Customer Services is free from a TalkTalk landline, but not free otherwise (subject to normal call rates for 0870 on your provider). This may also be true if you are with the Sky landline calling service with respect to some of their numbers.

I would like to clarify what jgxenite is saying here.

Call charges for any number are set by whatever call provider (telephone company/provider) you are with. The company you are calling cannot charge (or not charge) their 0870/0845 number at a different rate or make it free.

However, where the company being called is the telephone provider in the case of Talk Talk, for example, they are able to setup their billing system to make their 0870 number free. It would be possible for Sky to do this for people on Sky Talk, although for Sky to even make this statement would mean that the caller would have to be one Sky's own telephone package. I think it's more likely that the caller is being mislead here.

Use the Sky Customer Services number 01506 831783. Tell them you're enquiring about Broadband and ask to be put through to that department. And they will. I have done it several times since they shut down the other number. I got straight through to tech support.

Hi ya all,

I was just browsing through and noticed everyone complaining about the time etc that Sky leaves you on hold apparently awaiting for an adviser???? When i finally got through to Sky the last time i called i asked to be put straight through to a manager and complained to them about the amount it was costing me to keep ringing them, she informed me if i send in a copy of my phone bill to them highlighting the calls that where made to them they will refund it!! So i gave it a go what a few more pence on a envelope and a stamp with my amazement  Huh  Shocked they refunded all of the calls and knocked a fiver off our bill.   Grin
